Operators using the New York area Teterboro Airport can expect a number of runway and taxiway construction closures beginning December 16 and continuing through December 20. Work will be ongoing on both Runway 19 and Runway 24, as well as on portions of Taxiways Q, E, G, L and R. Most of the closures will begin at 5:30 a.m.

BBA Aviation subsidiary Signature Flight Support’s new FBO at Newark International Airport (EWR) opened last month, after an 18-month construction project. The $11 million facility occupies approximately 11 acres at the airport. It features a 39,000-sq-ft hangar and an 11,200-sq-ft terminal serving as the prototype for Signature’s newly designed interior traffic flow pattern. Built to Leed Gold standard, the terminal provides three lounges, including a separate VIP area.
Two airliners, as well as a privately operated helicopter, were targeted with laser pointers between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on August 15 as they approached Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) in New Jersey. The helicopter was 10 miles south of the airport at 1,600 feet at the time of the incident. A 737 and an ERJ-135 were illuminated approximately one mile east of Teterboro Airport (KTEB) while on final approach to EWR at 3,000 feet.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has agreed to pay the FAA $3.5 million in fines for numerous violations of airport rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) standards that occurred between December 2010 and June 2012 at John F. Kennedy (JFK), Teterboro (TEB), La Guardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR) airports.
Rising sea levels and extreme weather events attributed to global climate change will increase the flood risk to airports and other transportation infrastructure in coastal regions of the U.S., according to the draft report of a government advisory committee. The trend over time will reduce the reliability and capacity of the transportation system, the study warns.
Landmark Aviation announced on Thursday that it has made its entrée into one of the top business airports in the U.S. The Houston-based FBO chain, which was recently sold to previous owner the Carlyle Group, has purchased Teterboro Airport-based First Aviation Services from Goldman Sachs for approximately $100 million, according to sources familiar with the deal.

The company will add a new executive FBO complete with a 17,000-sq-ft hangar, capable of sheltering 600-series Challengers as well as serving as a line maintenance base, complementing the company’s engineering facilities in the London area.
Hurricane Sandy closed the major New York City metropolitan area airports and forced the cancellation of more than 20,000 flights as it swept the Northeast region of the U.S. last week, leaving widespread flooding in its wake. The Category 1 hurricane, combined with cold fronts from the north and west, also disrupted operations at airports in Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Other airports nationwide and internationally felt the ripple effect of the cancellations.
International aviation services provider Gama Group has announced a major development project at the UK’s Glasgow Airport. Gama was recently selected to be the dedicated provider of air ambulance services for the Scottish Air Ambulance service for another seven-year term.
Sikorsky’s Associated Aircraft Group (AAG) has established a base at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport (TEB) to provide access to Manhattan from all metro-area airports.
The flight from TEB to the Wall Street heliport takes less than 10 minutes. AAG will be providing the service in S-76s configured for seven passengers and crewed by two pilots. The helicopters are equipped with emergency pop-out floats, EGPWS and traffic avoidance systems.
