Last month, the FAA approved a $500,000 grant for preliminary engineering work on installing safety barriers at the end of Teterboro (N.J.) Airport’s Runway 1, which ends 300 feet from a multilane commuter highway. The grant comes as a direct result of the February 2 accident in which a Challenger overran the runway following an aborted takeoff, crossed the highway (seriously injuring a motorist) and crashed into a warehouse.

The Harrods Aviation FBO group has sold London Battersea Heliport to Weston Aviation for an undisclosed amount. The new owner, based at Takely, UK, is part of the Weston Homes building group. Battersea is London’s only downtown heliport and is located on the south bank of the Thames River, about four miles west of the financial district. Its standard daily opening hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., but early and late extensions can be arranged.

As expected, the FAA extended the reservation and slot program under the high-density rule at New York La Guardia Airport. The program, which includes a slot-reservation system for general aviation operations (six slots are available per hour between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.), was set to expire January 1. The FAA has proposed a long-term rule in a notice of proposed rulemaking that would further limit the number of operations at La Guardia.

The comment period on a proposal to continue the reservation and slot program under the high-density rule at New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) closes December 29. The program, which includes a slot-reservation system for general aviation operations (six slots are available per hour between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.), is currently set to expire on January 1.

The comment period on a proposal to continue the reservation and slot program under the high-density rule at New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) has been extended from October 30 to December 29, the result of requests the Air Transport Association, Regional Airline Association, Airports Council International and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Procedures have been proposed for reimbursing FBOs and other providers of general aviation ground-support services at five airports in the Washington, D.C. area “for the direct and incremental financial losses they incurred while the airports were closed” after 9/11.

General aviation operators at New York La Guardia Airport who are waiting eagerly for the expiration next January 1 of the reservation and slot program under the high-density rule shouldn't hold their breath.

The FAA today issued a "proposed order" to keep in effect through at least September of next year the high-density rule at New York La Guardia Airport, including the slot reservation program, that is now scheduled to expire on January 1.
