Boeing (Booth U23) has secured a launch customer for the new version of its electronic logbook (ELB): Singapore Airlines (SIA). Developed with Albuquerque, New Mexico-based Ultramain Systems, the ELB is designed to improve communications between pilots, ground crews, maintenance technicians and engineering personnel. SIA will install the ELB on its Boeing 777s.
Boeing expects the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue approval for Rolls-Royce-powered 777s to fly 330-minute ETOPS missions by the end of the first quarter, followed by authorization for Pratt & Whitney-powered airplanes some time near the end of the year.

FlightSafety International (FSI) has named Sikorsky Helitech of Brisbane, Australia, an approved maintenance training center to provide training for Pratt & Whitney Canada engines in Australasia. FSI will provide training courseware, a graphical flight simulator and other training aids.

A day after resuming certification flight testing on the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing announced this morning that it expects delivery of the first production airplane to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in the third quarter of this year.
Boeing won’t consider submitting the 787 Dreamliner for certification in the third quarter without Etops capability, notwithstanding differences in qualification testing the FAA has instituted since the 777 earned its FAA ticket–complete with Etops approval–in 1995, CEO Jim McNerney said during the company’s January 26 fourth-quarter earnings call.
