Gulfstream Aerospace has already signed purchase agreements for two or three G650ERs, president Larry Flynn told AIN today at EBACE. The company announced the $2 million extended-range option for its flagship G650 on Monday. “We’ve just scratched the surface of the G650 customer base,” he said, explaining that Gulfstream did not tell its customers about the upgrade before the announcement. He added that the Savannah, Ga.-based OEM also signed an agreement for a G450 with an Africa-based customer yesterday at the show.
West Star Aviation held an official opening last week for the latest expansion at its East Alton, Ill. facility. The expansion adds a new 47,000-sq-ft maintenance facility, a 14,000-sq-ft wood shop and a 6,000-sq-ft accessory repair shop, taking the ALN operation to 317,300 sq ft.
Ultra-long just became ultra-longer after Gulfstream president Larry Flynn revealed yesterday a new addition to its successful family in the shape of the G650ER. As its name suggests, the aircraft is an extended-range version of the G650 business jet. The G650’s already lengthy range figure of 7,000 nm is extended to a 7,500 nm at a cruise speed of Mach 0.85, which will make it the longest-ranged business jet in the world when it receives certification. Alternatively, the ER version can reach out a further 400 nm beyond the baseline G650 to fly 6,400 nm at Mach 0.9.
Gulfstream Aerospace announced an extended-range version of the G650–dubbed the G650ER–today at EBACE. Available for both new aircraft and as a retrofit for in-service aircraft, the approximately $2 million ER option stretches the G650’s 7,000-nm range to 7,500 nm at a cruise speed of Mach 0.85, making the G650ER the longest-range business jet when it is certified later this year. At Mach 0.90, the ER can reach 400 nm beyond the baseline G650 to fly 6,400 nm.
Gulfstream Aerospace continues to build on its momentum of last year with deliveries of 39 completed aircraft during the first quarter, a 34.5-percent increase on Q1 2013. This is on the back of a total of 144 deliveries last year, a 53.2-percent rise from the company’s performance for 2012.
The world’s leading business jet manufacturers posted financial results for the first quarter of 2014 in the weeks leading up to this year’s EBACE show. Overall, the latest numbers are somewhat encouraging in the context of the industry’s slow recovery but there are significant variations in the details. Bombardier Aerospace: Bizjet Deliveries Up, Backlog Grows
Gulfstream Aerospace has appointed Arno Forehand general manager of its component repair facility in Lincoln, Calif. He replaces David Pearman, who is now general manager of Gulfstream’s service center in West Palm Beach, Fla. In his new role, Forehand will handle the daily operations of Gulfstream Lincoln, a 34,000-sq-ft operation dedicated to repair and overhaul of components such as alternators, converters, generators, avionics and flight instruments.
Gulfstream Aerospace has named Skyservice as its first company-authorized warranty facility in Canada. The agreement, which covers the G550, G500, G450, G350, G280, G200 and G150, applies to Skyservice’s three locations in Toronto, Calgary and Montreal, though initially the Toronto site will provide customer support.
A spokesman for Gulfstream told AIN, “This new approval is a natural outcome of our growing fleet in Canada and direct feedback from our customers there asking for service opportunities in Canada.”
The business jet industry continued to build on its delivery momentum from last year, according to first-quarter delivery statistics released today by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). OEMs handed over 154 business jets worldwide in the first three months, a 19.4-percent increase over the 129 delivered in the first quarter of last year.
Gulfstream Aerospace appointed Tony Swift as its first field service representative (FSR) in Africa. Swift, who is based in South Africa, reports to Ken Maxwell, senior manager for international field service operations. Swift will act as the liaison between the company and Gulfstream operators based in or traveling through Africa.
