Over the past six years, Gulfstream Aerospace has enjoyed seven-fold growth in the Russia and CIS market, with the number of its aircraft based in the region rising from 11 in 2007 to 76 as of the end of June this year. According to Trevor Esling, the U.S. manufacturer’s senior vice president for international sales, this year’s first half proved to be the slowest period for Russia and CIS sales since the financial crisis of 2009 briefly unsettled this growth market. But he has high hopes for an uptick in the remainder of this year.
Gulfstream Aerospace has appointed William Gibson as director of product support global distribution. In this newly created position, Gibson will manage all processes, procedures and operations related to the movement and warehousing of parts throughout the Gulfstream Product Support global distribution network. For the past 10 years Gibson worked for Honeywell, most recently as senior manager of customer operations for its space and defense segment.
Gulfstream Aerospace launched an iPhone- and iPad-compatible application that provides customers with access to its worldwide product support network. The 24-hour support app serves as a source for direct access to Gulfstream technical operations, 19 company-owned and -authorized service centers, 13 company-authorized warranty facilities, 43 field service representatives, spare part sales and other key contacts. The app includes phone and fax numbers, email addresses, location information and operating hours.
Jet Aviation Flight Services has added its first Gulfstream G650 to its Part 135 certificate. The wide-cabin, ultra-long-range twinjet, which is available for charter, is being managed by Jet Aviation’s Van Nuys office. The charter G650 accommodates up to 13 passengers and has a range of up to 7,000 nm. This is the second known G650 to be added to the fleet at a U.S.
Gulfstream Aerospace celebrated two milestones yesterday, August 14–the 55th anniversary of the GI’s first flight in 1958 and the 10th anniversary of the G550’s FAA certification in 2003. Powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops, the GI was the first aircraft specifically designed and built for business travel, the company noted.
Gulfstream Aerospace has seen “significant growth” in the size of its customer-operated aircraft fleet in Latin America, especially in Brazil, where the fleet of Gulfstream business jets has nearly quadrupled since 2008. According to Gulfstream senior vice president of sales and marketing Scott Neal, 8 percent of the installed Gulfstream base is in Latin America. There are currently 176 Gulfstreams based here in Latin America, including 39 in Brazil. In 2008, these figures were 92 and 10, respectively.
Gulfstream Aerospace has appointed Luiz Sandler as its new regional vice president of sales for South America. He is replacing Bill Arrazola, who recently retired. His sales territory spans Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay.
Since 2007, Sandler served as sales director with International Jet Traders, which is Gulfstream’s sales representative for Brazil. Before that he was Embraer’s regional sales manager for Latin America.
While analysts are forecasting a slowdown for most Latin American economies in 2013, Bombardier–in its 20-year forecast released in June this year–expects to see an improved market in 2014 and believes that as early as 2016, the Canadian manufacturer will “surpass its prior delivery peak year of 2008.”
