Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush celebrated his 90th birthday on June 12 by making a tandem parachute jump from a Bell 429 light twin near his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Bush and tandem partner Mike Elliott, a former member of the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights parachute squad and current president of the All Veteran Parachute Team, departed the 429 from 6,300 feet msl and landed uneventfully on the grounds of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, where Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush were married almost 70 years ago. Mrs.

The plan announced last year by The Aviation Alliance to remanufacture Cessna 421Cs and Gulfstream IIIs is moving forward, according to company founder and managing director Geoff Miller, despite setbacks that have caused some delays. The California-based company is currently focusing on the Excalibur 421 turboprop conversion and hopes to have one completed in time for this year’s NBAA show in Orlando in October.

Cessna announced yesterday that it has received EASA certification for its M2 light jet, clearing the way for European deliveries for the CJ1 replacement to begin.

The seven-passenger jet, powered by a pair of Williams FJ44s, received FAA type certification in December. It has a range of 1,580 nm, a max cruise speed of 404 knots and can operate from runways as short as 3,210 feet.

The seventh Citation Special Olympics Airlift will get under way on Saturday, flying some 700 athletes from across the U.S. to compete in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey. The airlift is sponsored and managed by Textron Aviation, and–thanks to its recent acquisition of Beechcraft–for the first time will include Beechcraft owners alongside Cessna Citation operators.

The new Citation Sovereign+ received EASA certification, Cessna announced today. The upgraded jet has enhanced climb performance and range, as well as Garmin G5000 avionics. Cessna recently completed a demonstration tour of the Sovereign+ in Europe, where it made its debut last month at EBACE 2014 in Switzerland. “We have a number of European customers ready to take delivery of their aircraft, and with EASA certification we can now get the Sovereign+ into the marketplace,” said Textron Aviation vice president for jets Chris Hearne.

Cessna Aircraft received an FAA Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) certificate for the Citation Latitude, the Wichita-based aircraft manufacturer announced this week at EBACE. The TIA allows Cessna to begin accumulating flight hours that will apply toward certification.
