Maximum Manuals, a provider of automated aviation manuals, has named Liz Ryan manager of North American sales and marketing. Until recently, the company has focused exclusively on the production of minimum equipment lists (MELs). Now it has expanded its product offerings to include automated RVSM manuals, as well as customized applications for approval and use of the Apple iPad as a Class 1 electronic flight bag.

EASA has released a software evaluation report covering the use of Jeppesen apps running on Apple iPads used as electronic flight bags (EFBs). The report outlines a clear path for operators based in EASA’s jurisdiction to seek approval from local regulators for use of iPad EFBs with Jeppesen Mobile TC Pro and FliteDeck Pro apps.

Honeywell Aerospace has signed a cooperation agreement with China Electronics Technology Corp (CETC) to jointly work on various avionics programs. According to Briand Greer, the U.S. group’s president for the Asia Pacific region, the partnership will focus on technologies in which China’s Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) does not currently have a strong position.

AMI Aviation Services is taking pre-orders for an STC and PMA kit with optional installation services to retrofit the Beechcraft 1900D with Garmin G950 glass-panel technology. G950 avionics offer greater reliability, reduced weight, simplified fleet-wide training and a flexible architecture designed to accommodate future technology. The kit includes, in part, the three-screen Garmin G950 system, dual 10.4-inch primary flight displays with Garmin synthetic-vision technology and a 15-inch multifunction display with Eicas. Expected availability is next year’s second quarter.

Rockwell Collins - China Southern signing ceremony

China Southern selected a comprehensive package of Rockwell Collins avionics for 16 new Airbus A330 aircraft, signing the agreement in a ceremony at Airshow China 2012 in Zhuhai today. The deal includes Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Threat Detection System; the GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), the industry’s first MMR certified for precision landing using either satnav or instrument landing systems; and SAT-2100 satellite communications system.

The FAA issued draft Advisory Circular 25-11A, which provides advice on how head-up displays can be designed, tested and installed in Part 25 transport-category airplanes. However, the AC’s new HUD content, which is found in Appendix 6, clearly states that it is not a source of means of compliance for display of enhanced vision or synthetic vision system imagery on HUDs. The new Appendix 7 of the updated AC covers guidance for standards that should be considered for display of weather information on avionics.

AMI Aviation Services is taking orders for an STC and parts manufacturer approval (PMA) kit with optional installation services to retrofit the Beechcraft 1900D with Garmin G950 glass-panel avionics. According to AMI, the G950 avionics will modernize the aging 1900D cockpit and offer operators life-cycle cost benefits, including greater reliability, reduced weight, simplified fleet-wide training and a flexible architecture designed to accommodate future technology.

Garmin has introduced two new avionics products targeting the Part 25 transport category market, the new GTS 8000 Tcas II unit and GTX 3000 mode-S transponder. Both new products received FAA TSO certification on August 7 and will be fitted on upcoming new jets featuring Garmin G5000 avionics suites, including the Cessna Citation Ten, Latitude and Longitude and Bombardier Learjet 70 and 75. Both also can interface with any Garmin G1000 through G5000 system and so will be available for retrofit programs, according to avionics product manager Bill Stone.

Global mobile satellite communications provider Inmarsat has signed a master distribution agreement with Honeywell for Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) satellite service that includes a long-term joint marketing deal to bring the product to business aviation. According to Inmarsat, the agreement involves a “significant five-year capacity purchase by Honeywell” and reserve capacity up to 2021.

Standby Attitude Module (SAM)

Elliott Aviation (Booth No. 1706) announced at NBAA’12 yesterday that it has received an STC for installation of Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics’s new MD302 Standby Attitude Module (SAM). The compact 1.6-pound unit provides attitude, altitude, airspeed and slip information. Elliott plans to offer the compact $10,600 unit to buyers of its Garmin G1000 upgrade for King Air turboprops. The installation should go smoothly as Elliott also announced at the show the completion of its 75th King Air G1000 installation.
