Manufacturers of very light jets had until early this month to respond to a U.S. Air Force VLJ-capability request for information (RFI). While the military branch hasn’t yet opened its wallet to actually buy any of the small jets, it wants to perform qualification evaluations of the various offerings by year-end. “The intent of the qual evals is to investigate VLJ aircraft characteristics for potential AF missions,” the RFI states.

As it does each year, NBAA is recognizing the top aviation maintenance and avionics technicians with good safety records who work for member companies.  Maintaining corporate aircraft or avionics for three accident-free years is the minimum requirement for an NBAA Safety Award but the actual number of years for many of the technicians exceeds four decades.

Gordon Newstrom, founder of Mesaba Aviation, died in December. He was 93. An expert floatplane pilot, Newstrom in 1944 founded Mesaba Aviation, the predecessor to Mesaba Airlines.

Manufacturers of very light jets had until early last month to respond to a U.S. Air Force VLJ-capability request for information. While the military branch hasn’t yet opened its wallet to buy any of the small jets, it is interested in learning about what roles they might be able to fill and wants to perform qualification evaluations of the various offerings by year-end. All of the VLJ manufacturers are believed to have responded.
