In-flight catering provider Air Culinaire Worldwide opened an owned-and-operated kitchen in Miami, just three miles from Miami International Airport. The new kitchen becomes the third Air Culinaire Worldwide kitchen in Florida and brings the total number of owned-and-operated kitchens in the company’s network to 19. “Our new kitchen will provide fresh, regional cuisine and familiar favorites to clients operating to Miami for major events or operating to and from the U.S.
Flexjet and Abercrombie & Kent introduced “Passport to the World,” the first completely private jet experience circumnavigating the globe. For $1.5 million, guests will travel for two weeks aboard a Challenger 605 operated by Jet Solutions to seven landmark destinations and get “exclusive access to hidden wonders that are out of reach to the rest of the world,” ranging from the Forbidden City to the Taj Mahal. It includes a Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto and a private opening of Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia, off limits to the public.
Once again I was reminded that I never stop learning about flying. This time it was a fuel-injected Cessna Skyhawk, which stubbornly refused to start after I landed and taxied to the gas pump to fill it up before putting it away. It was a gorgeous day in Southern California, light winds, incredible visibility and a fun flight out of Santa Monica Airport.

Jetex Flight Support, in collaboration with Honeywell, launched the MyJETEX iOS app, which allows operators to plan and manage their worldwide trips. Features include flight planning, aircraft datalink, flight following and international trip support services. The collaboration on the new app follows an agreement signed at EBACE whereby Jetex is offering Honeywell’s Global Data Center (GDC) flight support services to its clients in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

A New York City bash on the deck of the Intrepid last night continued Flexjet’s six-city “Legends Redefined” tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Learjet. Attendees were invited to take a private tour of the Learjet 85 model and test-drive Aston Martins before sipping cocktails on the Hudson River. Flexjet has ordered 30 Learjet 85s, with deliveries scheduled to begin next year.
Private aircraft catering is trapped in the 1990s, according to VistaJet founder and chairman Thomas Flohr. His frustration has prompted him to forge an alliance with high-end restaurant group Nobu to offer a special menu for VistaJet clients. For now, the Nobu meals are available only on flights out of London, Dubai and Los Angeles, but the operator is working to add the option for other cities where Nobu has restaurants.
“We’re looking at what is happening in the rest of the world so that we can bring it to aviation,” said Flohr. “This is what makes my life exciting.”
