NBAA’s three-day 2014 Maintenance Management Conference, held recently in Tampa, Fla., drew almost 750 attendees. It featured 140 exhibits, 20 education and professional development sessions and a closing general session devoted to changes coming in aviation. Topics ranged from Part 21 certification procedures for products and parts to hangar modernization, managing aircraft interiors and how to find a good auditor. MMC2015 will be held at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Ore., from May 5 to 7 next year.

Pete Reynolds, 69, the former Bombardier Learjet chief flight-test pilot, died on Thursday. He will be inducted into the Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame–as previously scheduled, but now posthumously–tonight at a ceremony hosted by the Kansas Aviation Museum and Wichita Aero Club. Reynolds played a major role in the development, testing and certification of virtually every Learjet model between 1973, when he joined Learjet, and 2003, when he retired. He spent the last eight years of his tenure with Bombardier as the vice president of flight test.
Sandia Aerospace has developed a low-cost standby display, the SAI 340-Quatro, which retails for $3,595. The Quatro provides airspeed, attitude, altitude and slip indications in a lightweight instrument that fits into a standard three-inch instrument hole. The Quatro weighs half a pound and is just 1.4 inches thick. The unit’s lithium-polymer battery provides power for up to two hours. Certification is pending.
Tac Air has reached an agreement with the Omaha Airport Authority to construct a new 2,200-sq-ft Customs and Border Protection facility adjacent to its terminal at Eppley Airfield (OMA) in Nebraska. “The location of this new customs facility will allow seamless ground handling for international arrivals into Omaha,” said Mike Wilwerding, the service provider’s OMA general manager. The building is expected to be completed by the middle of the year. Tac Air has been providing fueling for commercial, military and general aviation aircraft at the airport since 1998.

John Cornyn (R-Texas) and North Texas U.S. congressmen Eddie Bernice Johnson (D), Sam Johnson (R), Pete Sessions (R) and Marc Veasey (D) joined hundreds of aircraft manufacturing workers, local officials and business leaders at general aviation jobs rally held by GAMA on Friday at Bombardier’s Dallas Service Center. The event also included remarks from leaders of GAMA member companies in Texas.
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and FAA signed a nine-year deal late last week for the agency to provide ATC service at the EAA’s annual AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, Wis.
FlightSafety International promoted Brian Moore to assistant manager of the company’s Cessna learning center in Wichita. He succeeds Randy Annett, who was promoted to manager of FlightSafety’s center in Tucson, Ariz. Moore joined FlightSafety in 1990 as an instructor at the Hawker Beechcraft center, also in Wichita. He worked his way up the ranks and most recently served as FlightSafety’s relationship manager with Beechcraft. Moore, an ATP with more than 3,000 flight hours, has provided more than 6,000 hours of ground school and simulator instruction to date.
Bombardier Aerospace has opened a regional support office (RSO) in Toluca, Mexico. The office will anchor regional support capabilities for Bombardier business aircraft customers throughout Mexico and surrounding areas.
The office is located alongside Bombardier’s new business aircraft sales team within the Assertec FBO on Toluca Airport. The office will be home to three field service representatives, one sales director, one RSO administrative assistant and one RSO manager.
Several completion and refurbishment centers are preparing infrastructure enhancements and consolidation to meet shifting demand for services. Spirit Aeronautics of Columbus, Ohio, is adding a 17,860-sq-ft hangar to its Port Columbus International Airport campus to support the expansion of its refurbishment services.
In-flight catering provider Air Culinaire Worldwide opened an owned-and-operated kitchen in Miami, just three miles from Miami International Airport.
