Gulfstream Aerospace, for the second year in a row, achieved the highest overall score for product support (pertaining to its original models), according to the results of an annual AIN survey of turbine business aircraft operators. Cessna Citation also repeated its previous performance by coming in second, with customers giving the Wichita manufacturer an even higher overall score than last year.

In a world where many marriages barely last a year and political alliances often don’t survive the night, a successful business relationship of 30 years is at the very least remarkable.
Bombardier CL-600-2B19, Moscow, Feb. 13, 2007–A U.S.-registered Challenger SE (a corporate variant of the Canadair Regional Jet) was destroyed when it crashed while taking off from Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport. The captain and first officer were seriously injured and a mechanic who was on board sustained minor injuries. The airplane was departing for Berlin Schoenefeld Airport.
In a ceremony yesterday that briefly took on the appearance of a celebratory conga line at the Bombardier stand (Booth No. 7500), three customers signed contracts for a total of four aircraft valued at approximately $101.4 million.
Mid-Canada Mod Center has obtained an STC for a complete cockpit upgrade of a Challenger 601-1A with gear from Universal Avionics. The Mississauga, Ontario avionics shop installed four Universal EFI-640 flat-panel flight displays, an MFD-640 multifunction display and terrain awareness and warning system, along with a UNS-1F FMS and handheld Universal Cockpit Display (UCD).
In one of its longest investigations into a general aviation accident, the NTSB released its final report last month on the Oct. 10, 2000, crash of a Canadian-registered Bombardier Challenger 604 during a manufacturer’s test flight at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. The two pilots and flight engineer died as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.
Canadian manufacturer Bombardier delivered the first Challenger 300 from its Montreal center in January. Before a restructuring last year, the company had expected to do Challenger 300 interiors at its Tucson, Ariz. facility, but shifted the responsibility to its new integrated manufacturing center in Montreal. The center combines final assembly activities with interior completion and paint for all of its Challenger business jet line.
Even during the worst days of the recent recession, the demand for aircraft exterior paint remained relatively strong. Some completion and refurbishment shops even expanded their paint capability during this period. Elliott Aviation was one such shop.
The FAA issued an emergency AD last month to all owners and operators of GE CF34-3A1, -3B and -3B1 turbofans after investigators found an electrical arc-out defect in the fan disk of the engine that broke apart during a Mesa Airlines revenue flight on January 25.
Operators of all U.S.-registered Challenger 600s, 601s and 604s and Canadair Regional Jets, which are derived from the business jet, must incorporate flight manual revisions to ensure that before takeoff the “wing leading edge and upper wing surface are completely free of ice, frost, snow or slush,” under a new AD. The FAA directive (AD 2005-04-07) followed an identical AD from Transport Canada.
