Bombardier Aerospace’s first-quarter revenues declined year-over-year by 8.6 percent, to $2.1 billion, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer reported today. Bombardier executives attributed the lower quarterly revenue in part to the sale of its Flexjet fractional ownership business last year and lower sales of pre-owned aircraft. Meanwhile, its order backlog for both commercial and business aircraft grew to a record $38.5 billion, 40 percent of which is for aircraft under development.

Composites Atlantic of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, won a multi-year contract with Bombardier Aerospace to manufacture composite parts for the horizontal stabilizer of the Global 7000 and 8000. The Canadian vendor will ship parts to Bombardier’s plant in Belfast, N. Ireland, which is responsible for the design and manufacture of the horizontal stabilizers for Globals. Composites Atlantic has been a supplier to Bombardier Belfast since the mid-1990s and manufactures composite parts that are installed on many of the Canadian OEM’s aircraft.
Diane De Souza, vice president of Bombardier’s parts services team, will retire after 28 years with Bombardier Aerospace, effective this summer. She is succeeded by Bill Molloy, previously director of CSeries customer services and support, who assumed his new role April 1. Under De Souza’s leadership, Bombardier’s parts services team was transformed to meet the challenges of a growing international customer base and a quickly expanding array of products.
Bombardier Aerospace has opened a regional support office (RSO) in Toluca, Mexico. The office will anchor regional support capabilities for Bombardier business aircraft customers throughout Mexico and surrounding areas.
The office is located alongside Bombardier’s new business aircraft sales team within the Assertec FBO on Toluca Airport. The office will be home to three field service representatives, one sales director, one RSO administrative assistant and one RSO manager.
Bombardier announced it will be adding interior refurbishment capabilities to the line and heavy maintenance offered at its new, wholly owned service center at Seletar Airport in Singapore. The OEM has selected Ontario-based Flying Colours to provide interior refurbishment services in Singapore to Learjet, Challenger and Global customers.
Bombardier Aerospace has chosen Singapore to open its newest regional support office (RSO), the Canadian manufacturer announced on Tuesday. The office is Bombardier’s fifth in the Asia Pacific region and its 21st overall.
Bombardier last night officially opened its new business aircraft service center at Singapore’s Seletar Airport. The new 92,000-sq-ft facility is the first factory-owned service center for Bombardier business aircraft operators in the Asia Pacific region.
First Flying Company of Osaka Japan has signed a purchase agreement with Canada’s Viking Air (Chalet CD35) covering a pair of Twin Otter Series 400 turboprops, marking the first placement of the latest Twin Otter generation in Japan.
Bombardier Aerospace booked a firm order for eight Globals–three Global 6000s, two 7000s and three 8000s–from an undisclosed customer on Friday. The transaction is valued at approximately $537 million based on 2014 list prices. “We are confident that the Global line’s strong momentum will continue in 2014,” said Bombardier Business Aircraft president Eric Martel.
Bombardier Aerospace scored a flurry of orders for 58 Challenger and Global business jets worth nearly $3 billion late last month, allowing the Montreal-based aircraft manufacturer to end the year on a high note. Including these 11th-hour orders, the company sold some 310 business jets last year.
