Jet Aviation recently signed two letters of intent with customers for the interior completion of two Airbus A350-900 XWB (extra-widebody) executive/VIP jets.

Airbus (Booth No. 4776) announced here at the NBAA show that it has received 23 orders so far in 2008, including 14 for single-aisle models (five A318s and nine ACJs) and nine for widebodies (eight A350s and one A340). Many of these orders came from undisclosed customers, but Airbus did reveal the names of several buyers, including Jet Alliance (one ACJ and two A318 Elites) and Saudi Arabia-based MAZ Aviation (six A350s).
Call it the super-sizing of the large-cabin business jet. Orders for executive-configured airliners are far exceeding manufacturers’ projections.
“We’ve seen quite a jump in orders for these aircraft,” said David Velupillai, marketing director for Airbus’ executive and private aviation division. “We’ve sold a lot more than we expected.”
Airbus, to date, has sold more than 100 single-aisle airplanes in executive configuration, including its first double-deck A380 “Flying Palace” and, in the first deal of its kind in the Middle East (and the largest ever for Airbus corporate jetliners) six VIP-configured A350XWB Prestige aircraft based on the A350-900, the newest member of the manufacturer’s corporate jetliner family.
Six operators were represented at the first operators conference for the Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) held at the manufacturer’s Toulouse, France headquarters on September 14. In total, 15 pilots and managers made the trip, representing Aero Services Executive, DaimlerChrysler Aviation, Twinjet, the Italian and French government flight departments, as well as one other undisclosed operator.
Jet Aviation celebrated the grand opening of its new 107,649-sq-ft hangar at Basel EuroAirport in Switzerland. The hangar was completed in seven months and is large enough to simultaneously house four narrowbody bizliners or an Airbus A380 and a Boeing 747-8. Work has already begun on the first airplane, an Airbus A340-600.

Airbus announced at last month’s NBAA show the World Ranger, a corporate version of the four-engine A340-200. “It is important to note this is not an ACJ2 but rather an entirely different aircraft based on the A340 with a range in excess of 8,000 nautical miles,” said Richard Gaona, Airbus’ v-p corporate jetliner.
Airbus Industrie has added the Honeywell Pegasus FMS to the options list in the Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ). The acceptance also includes use of Pegasus equipment in the A319, A320 and A321 single-aisle airliners and follows a similar agreement reached last year for use of the Honeywell FMS in the A330 and A340.
Airbus received its largest-ever order for corporate jetliners with the placing of a $1.5 billion order for six A350 Prestige aircraft by Jeddah, Saudi Arabia-based MAZ Aviation.
