Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) has chosen Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW150C engine to power the new MA700 regional turboprop, P&WC (Exhibit Outdoor Exhibit 3/4) announced at Farnborough 2014. The PW150C will provide increased performance over the PW150A turboprop designed for the Bombardier Q400, the manufacturer said.
Lao Airlines, the national airline of Laos, expects to take delivery of its first Avic “Modern Ark” MA600 turboprop “sometime after February,” marking the 56-seat turboprop’s entry into revenue service outside China. The only other two existing MA600s, delivered in December 2010 and September 2011, respectively, operate in China with the Civil Aviation Flight University of China (Cafuc) for training purposes.
China’s Xi’an Aircraft Industry Company (XAC) has started preliminary work on the Modern Ark 700 (MA700), a 70-seat turboprop regional aircraft that it expects to fly by 2013 or 2014.
The MA700 would be more energy-efficient than the Chinese turboprop now under development–the 60-seat MA600– and designed for high-altitude operations, said Geng Ruoguang, vice general manager of China Aviation Industry Corp. (AVIC), parent of XAC.
Bombardier Aerospace yesterday signed a contract with China’s Shenyang Aircraft Corp. (SAC) to supply the center fuselages for the newly launched C-Series family of single-aisle airliners.
The contract between Bombardier and SAC is an integral part of the relationship with the state-owned aviation-industrial entity China Aviation Industry Corp. (AVIC I), of which SAC is a subsidiary.
