International Airlines Group (IAG) confirmed on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Boeing that calls for the conversion of options on eighteen 787s to a firm order.

Ryanair is hoping that European anti-trust officials will look more favorably on its latest bid to buy Aer Lingus.

The board of Irish airline Aer Lingus has urged shareholders to ignore the latest takeover bid mounted by low-cost rival Ryanair. Under Irish law, the board of the former government-owned flag carrier had until the end of July to respond to Ryanair’s July 17 bid to buy remaining stock at €1.30 ($1.60) per share, valuing the company at €694 million ($833 million).

British Airways posted another record loss for its fiscal year ending March 31, as the recession, labor strife and adverse winter weather conspired to negate the some £1 billion ($1.435 billion) in cost savings the company managed to implement during the period. Losses before taxes totaled £531 million ($762 million), compared with the preceding fiscal year’s record loss of £401 million ($575 million).
