Rising oil prices and Europe’s ban on Soviet-era airliners have created a new market for western business jets in Russia. Russian businessmen have purchased a considerable number of western aircraft in the past two years.

Business aviation in Asia–particularly in China–was the focus of this year’s Asian Aerospace, held in Hong Kong from September 3 through 6. This year’s event also marked the show’s debut at a new venue– Asia World Expo at Hong Kong International Airport–as show organizer Reed Exhibitions moved the event from Singapore after its joint venture with that government ended. Singapore will hold its own show on a new site at Changi next February.

Bexair, the Bahrain-based executive charter firm, is set to take the size of its fleet into double digits with an order for a new Bombardier Challenger 605. The company is also preparing to open several new international bases and wants to develop
as a business aviation services group.

Hawker Beechcraft has chosen InterGlobe General Aviation to provide sales and service support for its aircraft in India. The company will be Hawker Beechcraft’s exclusive representative for the Hawker 400XP; the Hawker 125 series, including the Hawker 750, Hawker 850XP and Hawker 900XP; and Hawker 4000. The company’s territory includes India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Myanmar.

Four Embraer Legacy Executive twinjets have joined Cleveland-based fractional operator Flight Options to provide owners with a large-cabin aircraft to supplement the company’s Challenger 601 and Gulfstream IV fleets, as well as allowing Hawker 800XP owners to upgrade. The Legacy Executive is an eight- to 13-passenger business jet version of the Brazilian manufacturer’s ERJ-135 regional jet.

Dubai International Airport now has not one but two purpose-built support facilities for business aviation, both located in the duty free zone on the other side of the runway from the airshow. The new Jet Aviation FBO has been operational since May, and will be formally opened at a ceremony here this evening. The new Bombardier/ExecuJet Aviation facility was inaugurated yesterday and began operations just this month.

Charter operator Bahrain Executive Air Services Co. (Bexair) is announcing the launch of a new aircraft financing operation here at the show. The firm plans to provide business aircraft handling services at an undisclosed Middle Eastern airport, as well as for new passenger shuttle and cargo operations.

Executive Airlines of Barcelona, Spain, is the first company to join Skylliance, a new membership program for charter operators in Europe introduced by Swiss-based Jet Aviation. Executive Airlines will operate a CitationJet, Citation Bravo, Learjet 45 and Falcon 900 in the program. Member aircraft and crew uniforms will have special Skylliance markings and operators will be required to meet specific safety and service standards.
