Newly formed Avicus Group (Booth P232) is here at ABACE 2014 to introduce its full slate of aviation services to the growing China market. Launched by Jane McBride, CEO, and Patricia Zinkowski, president, the company’s capabilities include worldwide charter brokering, creation of customized international travel programs, aircraft sales and leasing and aviation consulting.
At the J.P. Morgan Aviation, Transportation and Industrials Conference yesterday, leaders from Bombardier, Cessna and Embraer provided summaries of their companies’ standing. Following are some “takeaways” from the event. “Bombardier: The switch to the Learjet 70/75 and Challenger 350 should help Bombardier shore up business jet pricing. Bombardier completed high-speed taxi testing on the Learjet 85, so first flight is very close. The advantage of composites here is primarily lower costs with fewer parts.
With the exception of the heavy jet category, charter flight demand seems to be tailing off at the end of the Northern Hemisphere summer vacation season. The latest forward-looking demand index from online charter portal Avinode shows demand dipping for light and midsize jets over the next 30 days.
The business jet fleet is projected to grow by 55 percent over the next 12 years–to nearly 31,000 aircraft from about 20,000 today–according to the International Bureau of Aviation’s Business Jet Asset Report 2013, released on Tuesday. Much of the new growth is expected to come from new deliveries, “Implying many business jet models have a solid future ahead of them,” the group said.
Bombardier Aerospace’s revenues in the second quarter were flat year-over-year at about $2.3 billion, with more than half of these revenues–$1.259 billion–coming from its business aircraft division. Pre-tax earnings at the company rose by $8 million, to $107 million, while its backlog as of June 30 climbed to $33.4 billion, up from $32.9 billion at the end of last year.
Embraer has appointed Jet Aviation Basel as a fully authorized service center for the Legacy 600 and 650, allowing it to provide line and base maintenance for the super midsized business jets.
“We can now provide any kind of maintenance, exterior painting and IFE upgrades, as well as warranty and AOG support, to the growing Embraer customer base in EMEA,” said Johannes Turzer, v-p and general manager of the maintenance center at Jet Aviation Basel.
328 Group acquired an FBO and business aircraft maintenance and repair station at London Biggin Hill Airport from Jet Aviation earlier this month. The facility has been renamed Jets (Biggin Hill) Ltd. The acquisition brings new aircraft maintenance capabilities to the 328 Group, including the Dassault Falcon 900, 2000 and 7X and Cessna Citation 525, 550 and 560, in addition to its existing services for the Bombardier Challenger 300, 601, 604 and 605; Learjet 45; Dornier 328; and Hawker 700, 800, 800XP, 850XP, 900XP, 950XP and 1000.
328 Group acquired the UK Biggin Hill Maintenance Service Centre formerly owned by Jet Aviation. The new company will be named Jets (Biggin Hill). The acquisition brings new aircraft maintenance capabilities to the 328 Group with the Falcon 900, 2000, 7X; and Cessna Citation 525, 550 and 560. The existing offering consists of Bombardier Challenger 300, 601, 604, 605; Learjet 45; Dornier 328; Hawker 125 series 700, 800, 800XP, 850XP, 900XP, 950XP, 1000.
Calgary, Alberta-based FlyHT Aerospace Solutions has received STC approval for its automated flight information reporting system (Afirs) 228 on several business aircraft types, including the Bombardier Challenger 870/890 and Hawker 750/800XP/850XP/900XP. STC approvals are in progress for the Boeing Business Jets BBJ1 and BBJ2, as well as the Airbus ACJ319/320/321.
Some 10,120 business jets worth $257 billion are expected to be delivered over the next 10 years (2012-2021), according to the third annual industry forecast published late last month by Zenith Jet, a Montreal-based business aviation services company.
