FlightSafety International’s business aviation learning center at Farnborough Airport in the UK is expected to open next January. The 80,000-sq-ft facility will house up to 15 full-motion flight simulators, with initial units expected to cover the Gulfstream IV; Citation CJ1/CJ2, Ultra, Bravo and Excel; and Hawker 800XP.

FlightSafety International has started construction of its full-service learning center at Farnborough Airport, about a 45-minute drive from central London. The facility, which is expected to open early next year, will have the capacity for 14 advanced flight simulators and provide associated interactive classrooms, high-tech training devices, pilot-briefing rooms and customer-service facilities.
Atlantis Systems International (ASI) of Ottawa, Ontario, has developed what it calls a helicopter vocational trainer for autorotation (HVT) and is demonstrating its finesse in Heli-Expo Booth No. 4401. Ian McIntyre, v-p of marketing and sales for ASI, said the HVT provides a small-footprint, completely immersive environment to train pilots in difficult maneuvers or to simulate the most dangerous landing sites.
CAE has opened a new four-simulator expansion of its flight-training center at Burgess Hill in the UK. The facility will provide training for Dassault’s new Falcon 7X, as well as for the 900EX and 2000EX EASy models.

Danish operator Air Alpha A/S announced that it has finalized details on the purchase of a Motus Bell 222 flight simulation device from Fidelity Flight Simulation. Type specific to the Bell 222U, the simulator will include Fidelity’s six-axis motion base, LCD Mosaic Wall external visual display and dynamic control loading.
Luckily for my passengers, aircraft and me, the only times I’ve experienced a runway excursion have been during training. On each occasion, the results were predictable, even in the most sophisticated aircraft simulator. A loss of directional control sends the aircraft sliding across shamrock-green video scenery and careening harmlessly through runway lights and signs, trees and anything else in the way.
