Gama Aviation held a ceremonial opening yesterday for its FBO at Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, about 15 miles northeast of Dubai’s downtown. The new facility’s lounge has been operational since June 15, and feedback from users of the private terminal has been “incredible,” according to Gama Aviation MENA general manager Richard Lineveldt.

F&E Aerospace selected Jetex as the host FBO for the aviation events it organizes in the UAE at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai World Central, namely MEBA and the Dubai Airshow. At these events, Jetex will provide aircraft pushback and towing to all show aircraft. The FBO will also provide a VIP lounge for passengers and crew, with services such as customs and immigration, visa arrangements, aircraft parking and coordination of aircraft display areas. MEBA 2014 will be held in December, followed late next year by the Dubai Airshow.
The U.S. Congress would have a say in White House plans to open customs pre-clearance facilities in foreign countries under legislation a House committee passed on June 11. Airline industry groups, which last year opposed but failed to prevent the opening of such a facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport, appear to have accepted the legislation even as news surfaced of U.S. plans to open a pre-clearance facility in Dubai.

Cessna Aircraft delivered the 100th Grand Caravan EX this week. The milestone aircraft was handed over at Cessna’s Wichita headquarters to Hussain Ali Rashid Almoalla for use at his aviation club in the UAE. Almoalla, who also owns a Cessna 182 Skylane and 206 Stationair, planned to personally fly the Caravan back to his home base in Abu Dhabi, a trip of more than 9,000 nm. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140, the EX offers a 38-percent improvement in rate of climb over the standard Grand Caravan, as well as a 10- to 12-knot boost in cruise speed.

Seawings has launched an amphibious seaplane shuttle service to connect Dubai’s remote new Al Maktoum International Airport with the Park Hyatt Hotel in the city center. The new operation has been launched in partnership with flight support provider Jetex, which operates an FBO at the airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
