Italian aircraft manufacturer Piaggio has told AIN that the first of 56 Avanti P.180 twin-turboprop aircraft from the former fleet of bankrupt Avantair has had its airworthiness certificate revalidated by the FAA. Avantair was grounded, and the airworthiness certificates of all its aircraft were revoked by the FAA, after lax maintenance at the failing fractional program operator came to light earlier this year.

Gulfstream Aerospace has added three specially outfitted Field and Airborne Support Team (Fast) vehicles to its support network. The new rapid-response Gulfstream Fast vehicles are based at Van Nuys Airport near Los Angeles, William P. Hobby Airport in Houston and New York-area Teterboro Airport.
Each vehicle has a team of two or three technicians and is designed to support operators facing an AOG. Onboard capabilities include line service repairs, engine changes, post-flight and storage inspections, minor scheduled inspections and minor cabin interior repairs.

This is a banner year for Gore Design Completions (Booth No. N4900), according to Mohammed Alzeer, the company’s general partner, who announced here at NBAA 2013 that Gore had received a contract to complete two Boeing 787 Dreamliners in head-of-state VVIP configuration. The aircraft will be delivered from Boeing to Gore’s San Antonio, Texas facility.
With a snip of the ribbon, NBAA 2013 was opened yesterday morning–marking the first time the Association’s flagship annual event has been called the “Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition” (BACE). While the Association has been hosting this event every year since 1950, it recently renamed it to conform with its other global shows, such as EBACE (Geneva) and ABACE (Shanghai).
Honda Aircraft president and CEO Michimassa Fujino said yesterday at NBAA 2013 that the HondaJet would be certified by the end of 2014, as long as the HF120 engine was certified by the end of this year. Terry Sharp, president of GE Honda Aero Engines, said this timeline is doable–“We have completed all the certification testing on the engine and last week we submitted the final two reports to the FAA. Our confidence is high that we will have the type certificate by the end of this year.”
