A Bombardier Learjet 35A, unable to stop during its landing roll on 5,420-foot Runway 4/22 at Oregon’s McMinnville Municipal Airport (MMV), ran off the end of the pavement May 13, substantially damaging its wings and fuselage. The Part 91-operated aircraft was on a post-maintenance positioning flight with a three-member Evergreen International Aviation crew aboard. No one was injured in the accident.
Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support (HBC) today announced at the NBAA Convention that, together with Rockwell Collins, it has launched an aftermarket program to upgrade Pro Line Fusion displays to all fielded Pro Line 21-equipped Hawker and Beechcraft aircraft. Importantly, this marks the first after-market program of the Fusion avionics system.
Cessna Citation 500, London, UK, March 8, 2008–A missing rivet head
A final report from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said a missing rivet head on a fuel shutoff valve that likely led to inadvertent engine shutdown was one of four “contributory factors” that resulted in the crash of a Cessna Citation 500 on March 8 some two miles northeast of London Biggin Hill Airport.
The NTSB on Friday issued six recommendations stemming from the Sept. 19, 2008 overrun crash of a Learjet 60. In that accident, the Learjet 60’s pilots attempted to abort the high-speed takeoff after a tire burst, according to the Safety Board.
Bombardier CRJ CL-600-2B19, Lake Michigan, Mich., April 7, 2007–At 16,000 feet over Lake Michigan, the Mesa Airlines CRJ thrust reverser translating cowling separated from the left engine and struck the horizontal and vertical stabilizers, substantially damaging the airplane.
In response to a thrust-lever quadrant failure in an Eclipse 500 on June 5, the FAA issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD 2008-13-51) on June 12, calling for pilot inspection of quadrants and a report to the FAA of any problems found.
The pilot of an Eclipse 500 pushed the throttles forward during a wind-shear encounter at Chicago Midway Airport last month with enough force to result in an “eng control fail” crew alerting system message followed by a maximum uncontrolled thrust condition on both of the airplane’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofans.
Eclipse Aviation said extra margin added to the Eclipse 500’s thrust lever forward range of motion should prevent the levers from being pushed beyond their design limits during normal operation.
