Thales has developed a 13-pound, unpowered, glide weapon that is especially suitable for application to UAVs and light attack aircraft.

Known as FFLMM (free-fall light multi-role missile), the weapon draws on many of the components developed for the powered LMM weapon that Thales is producing for the Royal Navy’s FASGW(L) requirement, but is much shorter (just 28 inches in length), as it lacks a rocket motor, and has fixed instead of folding wings.

Thales’ offer in cockpit, cabin and air traffic control (ATC) electronics is evolving into a comprehensive “connected aircraft” concept. The company (Hall 4 Innovation Zone A21) is studying how flight-deck connectivity can piggyback on the satellite communications equipment installed for the passenger cabin. Here at the Farnborough Airshow for the first time is the Avionics 2020 cockpit demonstrator, featuring cockpit-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC).

Thales has introduced two new innovation centers where customers can sample the company’s products.

Thales has many things to show visitors to its enclosure and pavilion outside Hall 2 at the Paris Air Show. But potential customers can also benefit from two new demonstration facilities that the company has built around Paris. At Gennevilliers, a Customer Innovation Centre (CIC) opened last February to show technology and systems from across the company. The previous month, an Operations Centre was opened by the Thales Air Defense business at Rungis. Both are housed in new buildings, with Gennevilliers having replaced the company‘s old site at Colombiers.
