Data Link Solutions (DLS), a joint venture between Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems, has been awarded a $5.5 million contract to provide multifunctional information distribution system–low- volume terminals (MIDS-LVTs) to the Republic of Korea Air Force. The terminals will be installed on F-16 fighters in Wayne, New Jersey, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The work will continue through 2014.

The FAA has issued a proposed plan to transition the national airspace system (NAS) to a performance-based navigation system that relies on GPS and “area navigation everywhere and required navigation performance where beneficial,” instead of defining airways, routes and procedures using VORs and other legacy navaids. A minimum operational network of VORs and an “optimized network” of DMEs would be retained, and this drawdown would be complete by Jan. 1, 2020.

The Australian Army has chosen Sandel Avionics’ four-inch flat-panel primary flight and navigation displays to upgrade its fleet of Bell 206B/OH-58 Kiowa helicopters. Redesign of the legacy OH-58 instrument panel and installation work was accomplished by Sikorsky Helitech in Brisbane, Queensland.

The U.S. Navy has selected the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics system for its fleet of 55 T-44A trainers in a major upgrade program anticipated to last four years. Under terms of the deal, Arinc will serve as the purchasing and installation agency for the program and L-3 Communications the prime contractor. The T-44A is the military version of the Beech King Air twin turboprop.
