There’s history, and then there’s history; Valair Aviation falls into the latter category. Its two original hangars were part of Aero Commander’s Wiley Post Airport production facility in Oklahoma City. Dating back to the 1950s, they were the finishing center for new aircraft, the place where customers picked up their new piston-, turboprop- and turbojet-powered Commanders.

Lisa Cooper has been appointed regional sales manager for BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul (ERO). Cooper will provide sales coverage for the UK, Spain, Ireland and Portugal. She is a 20-year veteran of H+S Aviation, a BBA Aviation ERO company. At H+S Aviation, Cooper worked on the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100, PT6A and PT6T and Rolls-Royce M250 engine repair and overhaul programs. Cooper will be based in Portsmouth, UK, at the headquarters of H+S Aviation.

Jeffrey Pino, president of Sikorsky Aircraft, announced his retirement effective July 1. He will be succeeded by Mick Maurer, president of Sikorsky’s military systems unit.

Maintenance program provider Jet Support Services (JSSI) has named two new co-presidents. Susan Marr was promoted from executive v-p, while Neil Book, formerly v-p of mobility at Juniper Networks, has joined the Chicago-based company.

Flightstar is now a Bombardier authorized line maintenance center for the Learjet 40 and 45.

Champaign, Ill.-based Flightstar continues to expand its portfolio of services with its designation as a factory-authorized line maintenance facility for the Bombardier Learjet 40 and 45 series. Flightstar is an FAA-certified repair station and Class IV maintenance facility with full airframe, engine, avionics and AOG capability.

Just northwest of Tucson, Ariz., sits a 1,200-acre plot of ground with a 460-acre facility dedicated to aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul. It has been in operation for more than 30 years and is generally considered to be the world’s largest MRO dedicated to maintenance, repair, painting, storage and end-of-life services for passenger and cargo aircraft.

Jet Aviation St. Louis has been renewed as authorized service center for GE’s CF34-3 engine.

GE has renewed Jet Aviation St. Louis’ status as an authorized service center for the CF34-3, which powers the Bombardier Challenger series. With the GE authorization renewal, Jet Aviation St. Louis continues to perform line maintenance inspections; routine installed engine maintenance, including removal and replacement of engine components; removal and replacement of engines; removal and reinstallation of external engine components; and inspections for time-between-overhaul extensions.

Following its recent Civil Aviation Administration of China approval as a Part 145 maintenance organization, Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre (SHPBASC) has completed its first (and China’s first by an authorized service center and independent MRO) scheduled maintenance inspection on a Chinese-registered corporate aircraft. The MRO completed the work on an unspecified Chinese-owned and -operated midsize business jet last month.

StandardAero Business Aviation is now offering Pratt & Whitney PW305 service at its Houston facility in support of the Learjet 60 and Hawker 1000. The MRO’s Springfield, Ill. facility was the first site to begin supporting the PW300-series.
