An Embraer Phenom 300 set three speed records for its class when it flew from Embraer Executive Jets’ headquarters at Melbourne (Fla.) International Airport (MLB) to Daugherty Field in Long Beach, Calif., with only one fuel stop. On the first leg, the twinjet flew the 1,380-nm route to El Paso (Tex.) International Airport in four hours, 16 minutes and 33 seconds. After a 27-minute fuel stop, it proceeded to Long Beach, completing the 607-nm leg in one hour, 55 minutes and 20 seconds.

Duncan Aviation Lincoln has always had a Gulfstream presence, but the unveiling of the 45,000-sq-ft paint facility last May and construction of two 40,000-sq-ft maintenance hangars scheduled to be in service in Lincoln next year have paved the way for team members to offer both paint and maintenance to Gulfstream operators.

The Helitech show, which has long been held every odd-numbered year in Duxford, UK, and mounted a Portuguese spinoff in 2008 and 2010, is moving to become “a truly international helicopter show.” Next year it will take place at the Excel London exhibition and convention center from September 24 to 26. Henceforward it will be an annual event, and Berlin will host the 2014 event.

In a press conference on Monday, Cessna once again launched its signature community event, the Citation Special Olympics Airlift (CSOA). The games, which are held every four years, are scheduled to take place in two years, and the airframer has once again issued the call to Citation owners to participate in the airlift, which first began in 1987. “Along with our many volunteer partners, we are extremely proud to kick off our seventh CSOA in support of bringing athletes and coaches to the 2014 Special Olympics USA games,” said Roxanne Bernstein, the OEM’s senior vice president of marketing.

Cessna has again committed to coordinate the Citation Special Olympics Airlift (CSOA) for the 2014 Special Olympics USA. Since games are held every four years, this will mark the seventh such airlift since Cessna first became involved in 1987. The most recent airlift in 2010 put 165 Cessna jets to work transporting 830 athletes to and from the event in Lincoln, Neb.

Duncan Aviation has released a four-part video series about Future Air Navigation Systems (Fans), focusing on its evolution, how it operates, certification and upcoming mandates in the U.S. and Europe. The video series is hosted by Duncan Aviation avionics installations representative Justin Vena, who offers information and advice regarding Fans operations. Vena will also host a Fans webinar on December 18. Registration for this event will take place at Duncan Aviation’s booth at the NBAA Convention later this month.

The NTSB has opened the public docket on the September 16, 2011 crash of a highly modified P-51 at the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nev. The docket includes 900 pages of documents, photographs, FBI findings, drawings, maintenance records and aircraft weight-and-balance information. The agency expects to add more material as it becomes available.

The FAA is adopting an airworthiness directive for Bell Helicopter Textron Canada models 206, 206A, 206A-1, 206B, 206B-1, 206L, 206L-1, 206L-3 and 206L-4 with Aviation Specialties Unlimited night-vision imaging system lighting modified by STC SR01383SE. It requires determining the date of STC installation and whether the aircraft has an unfiltered turbine outlet temperature internal over-temperature warning light, and based on those findings, installing an NVIS filter. Despite predictions of significantly increased private jet movements during the London 2012 Olympics, overall industry traffic levels were around 25 percent below expectations, according to online charter broker PrivateFly. The UK Department for Transport had estimated 3,000 additional private jet movements during the Games.
