Blue Sky Network recently launched its new SkyRouter iOS and Android mobile applications that can provide real-time aircraft fleet tracking on the go. SkyRouter is a cloud-based solution that can track a company’s aircraft that are equipped with Blue Sky Network’s Iridium tracking and communication services. Features of the New SkyRouter mobile apps include GPS location, fleet asset lists, breadcrumb mapping, active asset indication, automated event reports and drill-down on asset events.

TrueNorth Avionics’ Stylus cord-and-reel handset is now “ready for purchase and immediate delivery,” with Peterborough, Canada-based Flying Colours as the first of the company’s partners to install the equipment.

A wireless variant is in the works and can be expected in the near future, added a spokeswoman.

TrueNorth, based in Ottawa, emphasizes the “high-definition face-to-face quality calls, a Corning Gorilla glass face and one-button interface. Stylus is enabled by the TrueNorth software-centric Symphonē OpenCabin package.

Execjet Mobile, of Scottsdale, Ariz. (Booth No. 706), is enticing NBAA’12 attendees to its exhibit by offering an iPad Mini giveaway if they’ll stay to hear about the company’s new communication platform, Bizjet Mobile. The product uses an existing onboard smartphone, iPad or Android device’s Bluetooth plus Iridium technology to send and receive emails and text messages worldwide.

Garmin Pilot

In less than eight months, Garmin has established its Garmin Pilot app as a worthwhile competitor to other moving-map and electronic flight bag (EFB) applications. An improved version of the Pilot My-Cast app for Apple’s popular iPad and iPhone, Garmin Pilot was also launched for use on a wide range of Android smartphones and tablets. Both versions offer similar features and usability, though there also are some distinct differences.

If you run into a show-goer who is too busy poking at his or her smartphone instead of navigating the crowded NBAA’12 aisles here in Orlando, it might not be ordinary texting, emailing or web-surfing that has so tautly engaged their attention. Rather, these smartphone-addicted denizens are probably looking for a booth location or updating their show schedules, using the free NBAA’12 mobile device app.

Fractional provider Avantair has released “owner portal” applications for iOS, Blackberry and Android devices, allowing customers to book and view scheduled flights via smartphones and tablets. “Our mobile application allows customers more flexibility when traveling. They can now book flights, view their scheduled flights, view peak travel days and even change profile settings online by using mobile devices,” said Avantair CIO David Fitzgerald. “This is essential for our customer base since our clients are constantly on the go.”

The BizjetMobile app allows users to access SMS text and e-mail via an onboard installed Aircell/Iridium system.

BizjetMobile, a new software app from Exec Jet Mobile, allows passengers with Bluetooth and Apple products to use an installed Aircell/Iridium phone to send and receive SMS text and SMS e-mail to and from an iPhone or iPad.

The price tag of $35,000 includes an iPad, the hardware, app and 24/7 tech support. The unlimited text and e-mail plan costs a relatively low $699 a month.

Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support (GCS) announced yesterday that its technical publications and customer support directory are now available in the Apple App Store. The technical publication app, which will allow users to download and manage technical document libraries and receive notifications when updates are released, is available for the iPad and requires the user to register at the company’s website.

Baron Services’ Mobile Link device can now provide up to four mobile devices with the ability to simultaneously connect to and receive XM WX graphical weather data. This upgrade, part of the free Firmware 2.2 update, is available immediately for current subscribers. Mobile Link allows XM WX Satellite Weather subscribers to display onboard weather data on their mobile devices, including the iPhone and iPad, using certain aviation apps.

Essential Flight Technology and NavWorx have joined to make the Pads WxBox, a portable ADS-B receiver designed to deliver free weather information to mobile devices. Pads WxBox will work with iOS (Apple), Android and Windows mobile devices wirelessly via Bluetooth or with a USB cable. The device will provide Flight Information Service-Broadcast (FIS-B) over the 978 MHz UAT datalink via the growing network of ADS-B ground stations in the U.S.
