Construction has begun on the new Maverick Air Center, which is expected to open on the west side of Joe Foss Field/Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) by the end of the summer. Last October, the airport authority approved $1.6 million to build 12,000 sq ft of hangar space, 5,000 sq ft of office space and parking for the new facility. A fuel farm with capacity for 40,000 gallons of jet-A and 12,000 gallons 100LL avgas is also planned.

The new terminal at FBO Business Aviation Services, Joe Foss Field, Sioux Falls, S.D., opened July 11. Built at a cost of $4 million, the 42,000-sq-ft building offers a welcome visual break from the high-plains topography found in South Dakota. The exterior’s titanium panels blend seamlessly with spacious sections of sky-reflecting blue-green glass that let natural light enter the building.
