After months of legal wrangling and speculation, the assets of the SJ30 light jet program were purchased on April 7 from bankrupt Emivest Aerospace by the parent company of one of the aircraft’s primary airframe suppliers, Utah-based Metalcraft Technologies, for $3.5 million in cash.

Emivest Aerospace has had its court-administered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection extended through midsummer while it tries to complete the sale of the companyπs assets to an entity owned by the Chinese government. Attorneys for the maker of the SJ30 light jet successfully petitioned the U.S.

Emivest Aerospace’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization filing on October 20 revealed that the company has until January 14 to find a buyer or could face Chapter 7 liquidation. Any prospective buyer of the manufacturer of the SJ30 light jet would have until February 4 to close the deal.

A Delaware bankruptcy court could decide as early as today whether to allow Emivest Aerospace to continue operations after the company filed for creditor protection and reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code late last week. The maker of the $7.5 million SJ30 light jet indicated that it could obtain up to $4 million in debtor-in-possession financing to keep its doors open and continue to support the four in-service SJ30s.

Jet Works Air Center has begun delivering completed SJ30 light jets for Dubai-based Emivest, an 80-percent share holder in the former manufacturer, Sino Swearingen.

Emivest Aerospace, formerly Sino Swearingen Aircraft, on September 23 delivered its first SJ30 light jet and continues to ramp up production at its San Antonio plant. The twinjet, S/N 008, was handed over to owner Harry Mohney of Déjà Vu Consulting of Lansing, Mich., for use in support of his entertainment business. Emivest said five more SJ30s are currently on the production line.

Emivest Aerospace, now a majority shareholder in the former Sino Swearingen Aircraft, is expected to deliver its first SJ30 business jet (S/N 008) within the next two weeks. The airplane interior will be completed by the end of this week by Jet Works of Denton, Texas.
