While Hawthorne Global Aviation might be one of the newest FBO brands in the field, in its DNA it is also one of the oldest. The Hawthorne name has been involved in aviation since the early 1930s and the company’s chain of service locations was purchased in 1998 by the Carlyle Group to form the bones of what is now Landmark Aviation.

World Fuel Services announced yesterday at MEBA 2012 that Business Aviation Centre Cologne at Germany’s Cologne/Bonn Airport joined its Air Elite Network. Air Elite comprises FBOs that are part of the World Fuel Services global network. While retaining their individual ownership, these FBOs agree to a uniform set of quality standards for service, amenities, facilities, fuel and products.

The Air Elite FBO network has added two new facilities: St. Thomas Jet Center and Lehigh Valley Aviation Services. Air Elite is comprised of FBOs that are part of the World Fuel Services global network. These FBOs retain their individual ownership, but agree to a uniform set of high-quality standards for service, amenities, facilities, fuel and products. St. Thomas Jet Center is located at Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Lehigh Valley Aviation Services is at the Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, Pa.

FBO chain Sheltair began operations at St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Airport last month, notching the 15th location in its network and its eighth in Florida. Sheltair won the airport’s request for proposals process and took over the facility from St. Petersburg Flying Services. The airport, located near the city’s downtown, has a 3,677-foot main runway and sees approximately 87,000 operations a year.

Weston Aviation has added another location to its growing chain of UK FBOs. The latest facility at Tatenhill Airfield and St. Georges Park Executive Aviation Centre is adjacent to the new National Football Centre near Burton-on-Trent, which opened last month. Given the airfield’s location, the new FBO will provide quick and discreet access to St. Georges Park. The new location brings the company’s stable of FBOs to five, with the others located at Durham Tees Valley, Humberside, Newquay Cornwall and Robin Hood Doncaster Airports.

NetJets aircraft charter and management arm Executive Jet Management launched a new program that provides flight departments and aircraft owners with a “comprehensive suite” of services that offer cost savings on fuel and crew training and VIP access to FBOs.

Phillips 66 Aviation announced here on Tuesday a new corporate credit card program featuring Avcard, a co-branded card with Phillips 66.

The new Phillips 66 Aviation Wings Card will provide acceptance at more than 7,200 locations globally, along with double WingPoints at participating FBOs.

The new corporate card will serve pilots and flight departments flying into the nation’s largest network of branded FBOs. Some 870 FBOs are part of the Phillips 66 Aviation network.

It takes more than a monster storm and a potentially stifling presidential TFR to knock out the 65th Annual NBAA Convention and Trade Show. With Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the northeastern U.S. on the Saturday before the annual gathering, airlines began a chain of flight cancellations that eventually topped 8,000 before the storm made landfall in southern New Jersey on Monday evening.

Since the mid 1980s Sheltair has developed, constructed and now manages more than 60 percent of all hangars and airside commercial office space at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE), one of the busiest general aviation airports in the U.S. Sheltair said that to date it has built more than 3 million square feet of aviation-related space at 19 properties in Florida, Georgia and New York. The company opens its 15th U.S.
