Cessna is adopting “hybrid” fly-by-wire technology to actuate the flight controls on the Citation Columbus, formerly known as the Large Cabin Concept jet. This is Cessna’s first use of fly-by-wire flight controls in a Citation design, and the system combines electronic and mechanical control of flight control actuators.

Bental Industries has introduced a new member of its family of rotary servo actuators. The RSA-06 unit delivers up to 9.6 pounds per foot of torque at a stroke of +/- 45 degrees. The Israeli group’s RSA actuators are used for functions such as flap controls on small unmanned aerial vehicles. They provide an extremely low power-to-weight/size ratio.

Helsinki, Finland-based operator Copterline in late December filed a lawsuit in the U.S. against Sikorsky, accusing the Stratford, Conn.-based helicopter manufacturer of negligence. Copterline alleges Sikorsky knew that the design of the main rotor servo actuator of the S-76 was unsafe but did not take proper action. The lawsuit further alleges “breaches of warranties, negligence, gross negligence and failure to warn.
