Signature Flight Support today at EBACE signed an agreement with Berlin Schönefeld Airport to provide supervisory handling at the airport’s general aviation terminal, beginning next month. The FBO will offer private crew and passenger lounge areas, as well as on-site customs and immigration. The airport is due to be renamed Berlin Brandenburg International in a few weeks.

Signature also said its Frankfurt facility is now providing fueling services through Rheinland Air Service, in a joint endeavor to enhance the customer experience there.

British fuel supplier Shell Aviation (Stand 1343) has awarded ExecuJet Germany’s Berlin Schönefeld Airport FBO its Gold Fuelling Award. The award acknowledges health, safety, security and environmental performance. ExecuJet Aviation Group (Stand 242) won the tender to operate the general aviation terminal at the airport in January 2010. There are about 1,000 movements a month at the facility.

In April ExecuJet Aviation Group took over a 20,000-sq-ft hangar at Zurich’s Kloten Airport. “Hangarage at Zurich is scarce; we are therefore happy to be taking over this facility, which is big enough to accommodate four large business jets and one small [one],” said Nicole Gut, European FBO director.

Berlin’s historic Tempelhof Airport finally lost its long battle against closure on October 30 when all operations at the downtown facility ceased. Quite apart from the nostalgic blow of seeing the venue for the epic Berlin Air Lift of 1948-49 reduced to a commercial property development, the German capital has lost its most convenient gateway for business aircraft.

ExecuJet Europe is expanding its presence at Berlin Schönefeld Airport in Berlin, following an April 27 public referendum that will lead to the closure of the city’s famed Tempelhof Airport in October. ExecuJet launched an upgrade of its Schönefeld FBO in April, building a new passenger lounge, conference room, pilot lounge and briefing and operations room.

Pilots flying to Berlin Schönefeld Airport in Germany can now enjoy U.S.-style FBO services at ExecuJet Europe’s Berlin FBO. ExecuJet recently began providing fuel on the general aviation ramp using its own leased fuel trucks and employees, thanks to a partnership with Shell.
