Indianapolis is now home to the third Rolls-Royce global On-Wing Care center to open in the past 18 months. The engine maker’s latest facility in a global network of repair and overhaul service centers, it will serve as Rolls-Royce’s new North American headquarters for the On-Wing Care program. The $1 million On-Wing Care center located at Indianapolis International Airport becomes the sixth Rolls-Royce facility in the Indianapolis area.
Dassault Aviation CEO Charles Edelstenne on Friday made it clear that all design choices for its next Falcon business jet, a super-midsize aircraft codenamed SMS, have been reopened–including the engine. Rolls-Royce has opened its new North American headquarters for On-Wing Care at Indianapolis International Airport. The $1 million, 14,000-sq-ft hangar and 11,000-sq-ft-shop provide line maintenance and “hospital level” support for all Rolls-Royce corporate and regional aircraft engines. A company spokesman said the facility can handle more than 100 engines a year.
Rolls-Royce announced NetJets Middle East, owned and operated by National Air Service, has signed up six Rolls-Royce-powered aircraft for CorporateCare, the company’s engine maintenance and management program. The aircraft are three Tay 611-8-powered Gulfstream GIVs and three Gulfstream G450s powered by Tay 611-8C engines.
Alenia Aeronautica has extended its C-27J “exclusive propulsion system provider” business with Rolls-Royce from 42 AE2100D2 engine/Dowty propeller assemblies under a 2006 contract to a “total guaranteed volume” of 155. The U.S. Armed Forces may extend its requirement from the current 78 aircraft to a potential 145 machines. The C-27J has been ordered by Romania and is in service in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Lithuania.
Rolls-Royce and British Airways are embarking on a study to identify practical alternatives to jet fuel that would make real reductions to aircraft carbon footprints. The companies will initiate a joint tender process, inviting suppliers to offer alternative fuel samples for testing on a Rolls-Royce RB211 from a British Airways Boeing 747.

Seventeen Gulfstreams with recently overhauled Rolls-Royce Spey or Tay engines were grounded last month when a problem was discovered with the engines’ air control actuator (ACA), a key fuel control component. All the engines were being, or had recently been, overhauled by either Rolls-Royce or BizJet International. According to Gulfstream, three of the aircraft were already in scheduled maintenance at the time.
