Flight Display Systems (Booth 700), based in Alpharetta, Ga., is showcasing six new products at the AEA gathering this year. Smart Cabin CMS combines control of cabin management, in-flight entertainment and wireless connectivity, allowing passengers to use their own personal electronic device to control HD video equipment, cabin lighting, audio and more.

Vision system manufacturer Intevac Photonics of Santa Clara, Calif., planned to begin deliveries of new night-vision cameras for U.S. Army AH-64D/E helicopters this month, after receiving its largest-ever contract award from the service earlier this year.
The M611 camera, which contains the company’s ISIE (intevac silicon imaging engine) 11 sensor for low light level detection, replaces the existing camera in the Apache’s nose-mounted pilot night vision sensor (PNVS). The ISIE 11 sensor is also being integrated in the F-35 helmet-mounted display system (HMDS).
Prominently on display at Aerial View Systems’ exhibit at NBAA 2013 (Booth No. 5525) is its new AVS820-HD tail camera, which is also featured here at the show on Gulfstream’s G280 demonstrator.
Flir Systems is introducing its new Star Safire family of high-definition cameras that it says will mean operators no longer having to compromise on performance because their aircraft cannot carry larger, heavier equipment. The new range of camera gimbals use common mounting hardware and cabling and, according to the U.S. manufacturer, weigh barely half of other systems (less than 50 pounds versus around 100 pounds).
Bordeaux-based Otonomy Aviation (Booth 1826) is displaying its CamHD 1080 line of high-definition digital airborne cameras at EBACE. The company’s HD cameras, which can be tail or belly mounted, recently completed DO160 lightning-strike certification, including direct strikes.
Sensor Technology (Booth No. C2432) announced upgrades to the HeliNav LoadMaster wireless load monitoring system for helicopter-mounted cargo hooks at Heli-Expo ’13. The system checks the actual weight of an under-slung load 10 times every second and displays that information on a cockpit-mounted display. The data may also be stored in the system for downloading post-flight.
Freedom Aero Service has introduced two new repair processes for the Eurocopter AS350 and EC130. The FRS-12 process repairs the helicopter’s start card and FRS-16 modifies the master electrical (ME) box. Scott Durham said the FRS-16 process can save as much as 50 percent of the replacement cost by making the older-style ME boxes interchangeable with the latest version. “The start card was not repairable; your only option was to buy a new one at about $1,550. If replacement didn’t solve the problem, you were stuck with a new card you didn’t need.
Flight Display Systems has introduced its Fly HD aircraft video system, which it says is a cost-effective and easy-to-install upgrade path to get full 1080p high-definition video in cabins. The system has been engineered to use HD-SDI signals on the common coaxial cable that is already installed on many aircraft, reducing rewiring and converter boxes. Fly HD flat-panel HD monitors are available in sizes from seven to 55 inches. Installations can range from simple monitor upgrades to a complete cabin management system.
A high-definition (HD) camera system deserves an HD display and DVR to fully achieve the sensor’s full capability. So says Atlanta-area-based Flight Displays Systems, at Booth No. 2811 to demonstrate its line of HD cockpit monitors. They function with FLIR, L-3 Wescam, Axsys and other camera systems.
As more business and private jets travel further abroad, often to airports where ground security is nonexistent or minimal at best, Otonomy Aviation (Booth No. N608) has a growing family of solutions for security concerns.
