Avatas Aerospace has signed an agreement with Precision Turbines to allow the latter to offer maintenance, repair and overhaul services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engines. Precision Turbines provides a variety of products and services for the Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D, PW100 and PT6A and the Rolls-Royce T56. The company offers half-life, overhauled and new engines as well as OEM and PMA parts.

The FAA issued a Supplemental Type Certificate to Clifford Development for modification of Cessna Citation 550s and S550s with Williams International FJ44-3A engines. Four Clifford installation centers will do the modifications: Great Lakes Aviation of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Threshold Aviation of Chino, Calif.; Central Flying Service of Little Rock, Ark.; and Stevens Aviation of Greenville, S.C.
Aviation Turbines International (ATI), an Avmats-related company, is currently providing hot-section and repair services for the JT15D and will add JT15D engine overhauls to its capabilities next year. ATI has been overhauling engines since 1991.
Hawker Beechcraft today launched the Hawker 450XP, a derivative of the Hawker 400XP (née Beechjet 400A) with new cockpit avionics and engines.
Nextant Aerospace last month expanded the available options for its Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 Beechjet 400A/XP cockpit retrofit program. According to the Ohio company, the list of options for the upgrade package includes a second multifunction display, XM weather receiver, integrated flight information system and turbulence-detection weather radar.

The FAA and Pratt & Whitney Canada believe they have found the cause of three high-altitude double engine flameouts on Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5-powered Beechjets between mid-2004 and mid-2006.
Hawker Beechcraft Beechjet 400, Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 28, 2005–Both engines of the Flight Options Beechjet flamed out because high-altitude ice crystals that had accumulated on the P&WC JT15D-5 engines’ compressor vanes were ingested when the pilots pulled back the power levers to descend, according to the NTSB.
BBA Aviation’s engine repair and overhaul division has added 16 new engine models to its existing authorizations on Pratt & Whitney Canada engines. The additions encompass eight new variants of the PT6A, seven variants of the PW100 and one variant of the PW500.
BizJet International, on the strength of its acquisition last fall by Lufthansa Technik and “exceptional growth” over the past year, sees continued growth in the future. At a press conference yesterday, company president and CEO Peter Loeb noted as one example record demand for JT15D engine overhaul and repair. “By the end of September, the year will have been the best year in the company’s history for JT15D overhaul and repair,” he said.
