A trio of California congressmen have drafted legislation they hope will allow Bob Hope Burbank Airport and Van Nuys Airport to adopt operations curfews. The Valley-Wide Noise Relief Act seeks to exempt the two airports from the 1990 Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA), which has prevented them from adopting comprehensive nighttime bans.
The comment period for the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority’s plan to impose a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew on Bob Hope Airport ended on June 13. The next step, according to the authority, is to submit a formal application for the curfew to go forward, but the application has been delayed and will be rescheduled at an unspecified later date.

Oracle software chief Larry Ellison can fly his Gulfstream V into and out of San Jose (Calif.) Mercer County, N.J., executive Brian Hughes has announced plans to release tail numbers of aircraft that operate at Trenton Mercer Airport between midnight and 6 a.m., a voluntary curfew period, to anyone who calls the airport, gives the time of the operation and asks for the tail number. Aircraft operating during curfew hours are not violating any laws and cannot be fined.
