Cessna Citation 560XL, Toledo, Ohio, Dec. 1. 2010–The NetJets-operated Excel experienced a loss of rudder control while landing in VMC at Toledo Express Airport at the end of a Part 135 flight from Monmouth Executive Airport in New Jersey. The twinjet landed safely, and post-flight examination revealed that the airplane’s rudder control cables and pulleys inside the tailcone were sheathed in ice.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has added three new gateway airports for general aviation flights headed for Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA). Screening under the DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) will now take place at the Signature Flight Support FBOs at Newark Liberty (EWR), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY) and Jacksonville International (JAX) airports.

The addition of Nashville International in Tennessee and Saginaw International in Michigan brings the DCA gateway total to 25 airports.
The consolidation of the airline industry extended to the low-fare segment in dramatic fashion this morning, as Southwest Airlines announced that it has agreed to acquire all the outstanding common stock of AirTran Holdings for a combination of cash and Southwest Airlines common stock.
The NTSB has launched an investigation into a near midair between an Airbus A320 airliner and a Beech 99 cargo airplane near Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. According to the Safety Board, the two airplanes came within 50 to 100 feet of colliding during the September 16 incident.

The company will continue to operate maintenance facilities at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport and at Fort Worth Meacham International Airport.

As part of its good-neighbor program, Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains, N.Y., presented its annual Spirit of Noise Abatement awards at an environmental event organized by the Westchester Aviation Association at the end of May. Since 1994 the program has honored those business aircraft operators who have abided by the airport’s noise-reduction policies during the previous year.
NetJets has shelved plans for a $200 million operations and training campus in Columbus, Ohio, and is instead going forward with a more modest $21 million expansion to its existing complex at Port Columbus Regional Airport. It will build a new 140,000-sq-ft facility that will be connected to NetJets’ existing Bridgeway Avenue facility to help implement plans to consolidate its headquarters and operations in Columbus.
