Piaggio Aero designated Tianjin International Airport-based Freesky Aviation as its first authorized service center in mainland China. Freesky, which also offers aircraft charter and management services, introduced the first Avanti II twin turboprop to China in 2012. According to Han Wenjun, Freesky’s vice president of maintenance, “We will provide comprehensive service to all Avanti operators and we will further expand the customer service network of Piaggio Aero.”

Over the past several years, Piaggio has increased its worldwide service network and committed to expansion in the Asia Pacific region. In furthering these initiatives, the airframer on Tuesday designated Tianjin International Airport-based Freesky Aviation as its first authorized service center on mainland China.
Some 200 companies will be exhibiting at the three-day Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE), which starts next Tuesday at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. Organized by NBAA in partnership with the Shanghai Airport Authority, the event will be located once more at the Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre–a joint venture between the Shanghai Airport Authority and Hawker Pacific–with the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) co-hosting the event.

Starman Brothers Auctions has released the time and address for Friday’s auction of assets from bankrupt Avantair. The auction will start at 9 a.m. at 13000 Automobile Boulevard, Suite 501, in Clearwater, Fla., with a preview day on Thursday at the same site. The auctioneer’s website has a complete listing of assets to be sold, including Piaggio Avanti fuselages, aircraft tugs, golf carts, automobiles, a custom motorcycle and various aircraft parts, shop equipment, office furniture and computers.
The assets of bankrupt fractional provider Avantair will be auctioned off next month at a warehouse about a mile from the company’s former headquarters at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in Florida. According to court documents, the auction is being held off-site from its headquarters to address airport security concerns, especially since the building is adjacent to a National Guard air unit.
Piaggio Avantis formerly in the Avantair fleet, stripped of their airworthiness certificates (ACs) by the FAA in the wake of the August bankruptcy of the Clearwater, Fla.-based fractional program operator, now have approved paths to recertification.
