The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency expanded the pre-clearance program that allows business aircraft passengers and crew to complete immigration and customs procedures in Shannon, Ireland, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. It is now available to aircraft operated under Part 135, rather than just Part 91, and the facility’s hours have been expanded to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A private jet terminal at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is scheduled to open ahead of the World Expo in May. Construction is now well under way, with the terminal structure already completed but not yet outfitted inside. The executive terminal will have security inspections, quarantine and customs separate from the other terminals at Hongqiao Airport.

Galaxy Aviation is offering Visa gift cards to pilots who visit the company’s new FBO terminal and hangar facility during this year’s NBAA Convention (October 6 to 8) in Orlando, Fla. From October 5 to 9, Galaxy will give pilots a gift card in the amount of 10 cents per gallon for every gallon over 250 purchased at Galaxy Orlando.

The comment period closed last month on an FAA notice of proposed policy making on airport weight-bearing restrictions (www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/index.html  “search line” number 15495). The proposal drew most of its response from those opposed to the FAA setting such standards.

The FAA is reviewing a proposed noise-compatibility program for Florida’s Witham Field and is expected either to approve or disapprove the program by next January. Public comments, which are due by September 30, should be submitted to FAA, Orlando Airports District Office, 5950 Hazeltine National Dr., Suite 400, Orlando, FL 32822.

Per-seat, on-demand charter operator DayJet has added two primary “DayPort” and 14 secondary “DayStop” destinations to its network. DayJet now offers access to more than 60 airports in the southeast U.S. The two new DayPorts are in Orlando and St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Fla. New DayStops are in South and North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

PrivateSky Aviation Services is building an expanded facility on an additional 15 acres at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla. The new building will triple the size of the current operation and enable the company to service up to 12 Gulfstreams simultaneously.

Orlando, Fla. is becoming a major hub and resource center for corporate aviation, and for good reason. Beyond Wichita, the greater Orlando area has one of the highest concentrations of corporate aircraft crew initial and recurrent training centers and aircraft maintenance facilities. Overall, it has one of the denser concentrations of top-notch FBOs in the continental U.S.

According to Cessna’s v-p of service facilities Jim Morgan, “We are dedicated to expanding our worldwide Citation product network and doubling the capacity of our Cessna-owned service facilities during the next five years.” To keep up with the service requirements for the more than 3,700-strong (and growing) fleet of Citations, Cessna is expanding its Citation Service Centers here in Orlando and back at its home in Wichita.
