Pre-owned business aircraft inventories continued to decline in October, but asking prices–especially for jets–have yet to find a bottom, according to data released this week by industry research firm JetNet. Business jet inventory in October stood at 13.9 percent of the in-service fleet, down 1.3 percentage points from a year ago.

“While the pre-owned business aircraft market continues to show improvements, all indicators have been slow to recover in the first nine months of 2011,” industry research firm JetNet said in a market report released on Friday.

Aftermarket aircraft parts supplier Aeroinv.com will now be listing more than 150,000 part SKUs worth $350 million on Inventory Locator Service. ILS provides an electronic marketplace that enables subscribers to buy and sell parts, equipment and services. The inventory includes major brands of parts and components for most aircraft models.

“The first five months of the 2011 pre-owned market showed early-stage recovery signs,” with used business jet retail sale transactions growing by 19.7 percent during the period, according to data released by business aviation information firm JetNet.

SimCom Training Centers has added simulator training for all turboprop Twin Commanders at its Dallas/Fort Worth facility. Initial and recurrent courses are available and are approved by all major aircraft insurance underwriters. SimCom has equipped the Twin Commander simulator with a 180-degree visual display that allows pilots to perform, with outside visual cues, maneuvers that simulate conditions for day, night and twilight conditions.

The rapid uptake of Apple’s iPad into business and even commercial aviation cockpits has been stunning. So, too, has been the deployment of applications that do everything from displaying moving maps with geo-referenced (own-ship) position on airport, en route and approach charts to providing terrain awareness and pre-flight (and soon in-flight) weather.

King Schools, distributor for Redbird Flight Simulation’s desktop TD and TD2 flight training devices, demonstrated a new Redbird feature, the Parrot context-aware ATC simulator. Parrot responds to student radio calls depending on the “position” of the simulator. For example, before takeoff from a busy airport, the student will have to call clearance delivery to obtain a clearance, then ground, then tower.

Sales of pre-owned business jets, turboprops and turbine helicopters increased in the first seven months versus the same period last year, though at the same time aircraft prices deflated, according to data released yesterday by JetNet. Business jet inventory showed the largest year-over-year change, dropping 2.8 points to 14.9 percent.
