Porvair Filtration Group’s Ashland, Va. facility is manufacturing last-chance filters for the aerospace industry. Last-chance filters and screens in aircraft fluid systems provide critical point-of-use protection for contamination-sensitive components, performing a complementary role to main system filters. Last-chance filters are designed to remove and retain contamination such as machining chips, burrs, wear debris and fluid breakdown products introduced during operation or downstream of the main system filters.
The UK’s Porvair Filtration Group is here at the Farnborough International airshow (Hall 4 Stand C1) exhibiting a range of its filters and other vital components for modern aircraft. The company is at the forefront of filtration and separation technology for a variety of markets. In the aerospace sector it is involved in a wide range of activities in contamination control of fluid and air management and control systems.
Turbine engine inlet filter specialist Donaldson Aerospace & Defense has completed a year marked by new products, a new St. Louis facility, and delivery of its 5,000th inlet barrier filter system.
Sikorsky is developing a next-generation main gearbox (MGB) with enhanced lubrication capabilities with built-in redundancy systems such as chip detectors and oil scavenge systems, according to Spencer Elani, Sikorsky’s S-92 program manager. “We are continuing to make a lot of improvements to the current gearbox, and to automate some of the features,” Elani said.
Business aircraft operators may be battling to control costs, but they aren’t cutting back on the oil and engine debris analysis services provided by Jet-Care (Booth No. N4916). In fact, growing demand for tests has prompted the company to increase the size of its facilities on both sides of the Atlantic.
The new Versa-Pure QC is “an important breakthrough,” claims Versa-Pure founder and president Richard Williams.
Not only does it meet all EPA standards, said Williams, but it also offers a 50-percent weight saving and as much as 60 percent less in labor costs for canister replacement.
“Even something as simple as sand ingestion can easily reduce an engine’s time between overhauls by 50 percent or more,” said Bob Stenberg, business development director for Donaldson (Booth No. 2847). The company specializes in the design and development of filtration systems and has recently received an FAA STC for an inlet barrier filter (IBF) system for the Bell 430.
AAR has been appointed as a distributor for the new AirManager air filtration system developed by Quest International to eliminate potentially harmful airborne contaminates. U.S.-based AAR will be helping the UK’s Quest to find new applications for the active air filtration and sterilization system, which is based on close-coupled field technology.
Donaldson’s Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) unit has received supplemental type certificate approval from the FAA for an inlet barrier filter (IBF) system for the AgustaWestland AW139. The new AW139 IBF system features low-profile conformal fore and aft fairings with dual filter assemblies mounted on the existing engine doors, creating a sealed intake plenum and an alternate inlet air bypass system activated by a cockpit switch.
Several suppliers for Gulfstream’s new G650 were recently announced, some of which updated their progress building components for the new aircraft.
