Blue Ash Airport, a part of Cincinnati, Ohio since the 1920s, was slated to close at the end of August following the city’s notification to the FAA, effectively ending a five-year battle between the city and airport users. As recently as last year the city had promised that the airport would continue to operate, albeit in a reconfigured form, but by mid-August crews had begun to remove the tanks in the fuel farm.

The City of Pompano Beach is extending the main runway at Pompano Beach Airpark by 500 feet. Upon completion early this year, Runway 15-33 at the Fort Lauderdale area airport will be 4,918 feet long, allowing for easier takeoffs and landings and affording an increased level of safety.
The present expansion is somewhat ironic. The city–in an attempt to emphasize the former military training base’s GA-only usage–shortened 15-33 from its original length of 5,000 feet to its current length of 4,420 feet in 1971.
Pilot unions say they were outgunned by a cargo industry lobby that convinced the FAA to exclude air cargo operations from its new flightcrew member duty and rest requirements, a rule they vow to amend.
