Operators planning flights to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) might want to make alternative arrangements beginning November 1, when Runway 25L/07R closes until May 1. During that time, there will be traffic management initiatives such as mile-in-trail, ground stops and ground delays, according to NBAA.

Runway incursions at the 35 busiest general aviation airports decreased slightly in fiscal year 2002, according to a new report by the FAA Office of Runway Safety, reversing a three-year upward trend.
Las Vegas-based Epic Aircraft has maintained a low profile since the company announced its composite turboprop single at EAA AirVenture last year, but has been making progress on its prototype. In March, the company removed the fuselage for the first airplane from the molds at its facility in Bend, Ore., while the composite wings were completed in February.
While many cities, counties and other agencies from coast to coast pursue policies of scaling back operations at airports they control–or in some cases even eliminating them entirely–Clark County, Nev., is flying a reciprocal course. Comprising the state’s southern tip, Clark includes the state’s two largest cities, Las Vegas and Henderson. The area’s economy is perhaps the most tourism- and convention-dependent in the nation.
The Clark County Department of Aviation hopes to issue up to $400 million in bonds to help finance land purchases and construction at three existing southern Nevada airports and the proposed new international airport site in Ivanpah Valley. If approved, the money would be used for everything from future terminal and runway expansion, road and taxiway construction, noise mitigation and improved security.
