The Airport Authority of Washoe County (AAWC) in Nevada recently dedicated the Reno/Tahoe International Airport’s B concourse in honor of business jet pioneers Bill and Moya Lear. Now known as the Lear Concourse, the 11-gate complex will have an exhibit of historical artifacts from the Lear archives.

The FAA intends to implement major airspace changes in the Southwest U.S. on October 4. The Las Vegas four cornerpost plan integrates changes in standard routings in airspace controlled by the Albuquerque and Los Angeles Centers. The plan also includes changes to the Phoenix and Las Vegas Tracon airspace that serves Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Las Vegas McCarran International Airports.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (Natca) said two business jets had to take evasive action at 28,000 feet and about 60 miles northeast of Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon to avoid the possibility of colliding while en route to Las Vegas McCarran Airport. The incident involved a NetJets Cessna Citation X and a Learjet 60.

While many cities, counties and other agencies from coast to coast pursue policies of scaling back operations at airports they control–or in some cases even eliminating them entirely–Clark County, Nev., is flying a reciprocal course. Comprising the state’s southern tip, Clark includes the state’s two largest cities, Las Vegas and Henderson. The area’s economy is perhaps the most tourism- and convention-dependent in the nation.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Aero Toy Store announced Tuesday the grand opening of a Las Vegas sales center, located at McCarran International Airport. The sales and completions company owns FBOs and sales centers in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Montreal, Canada.

The Clark County Department of Aviation hopes to issue up to $400 million in bonds to help finance land purchases and construction at three existing southern Nevada airports and the proposed new international airport site in Ivanpah Valley. If approved, the money would be used for everything from future terminal and runway expansion, road and taxiway construction, noise mitigation and improved security.
