Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings of Andover, Kan., has expanded its SKYscape basecoat/clearcoat polyurethane aerospace paint to include special mica effects with 30 new “pearl” color options. The new SKYscape mica colors feature translucent pearl and mica pigments rather than traditional metallic flaks, resulting in vivid special effects.

SimCom Training Centers closed the deal to acquire 14 simulators and training programs from FlightSafety International yesterday. With this addition, Orlando, Fla.-based SimCom will operate 59 flight simulators at its five U.S. training centers.

The Iridium satcom system received FAA approval for use as an Aeronautical Mobile Satellite (Route) Service so operators can use Iridium systems for over-ocean critical ATC communications. Iridium’s advantages over other communications systems include much lighter weight, lower power needs and coverage over the Earth’s poles. The FAA approval means that Iridium satcom can be used for Future Air Navigation System (Fans) 1/A communications.

CAE Flight Training (India) and InterGlobe Enterprises of India are forming a joint-venture training center to provide pilot and maintenance training in India. Located in the National Capital Region, Delhi, India, it is slated to begin operations by the end of next year. It is the fifth CAE facility in the country. CAE currently trains more than 1,500 crewmembers every year at its training center in Bengaluru.

PPG Industries’ aerospace business has introduced a chromate-free coating that, according to the Pittsburgh-based coatings specialist, “reduces environmental impact, lowers aircraft weight and provides a smooth, glossy and highly durable finish.”

Bombardier on Thursday renamed its Global Express XRS with the new Global Vision flight deck as the Global 6000. The move is not all that unexpected given that the model became sandwiched between the Global 5000 and the Global 7000 and 8000, the latter two being announced in October at the NBAA Convention.
