BBA Aviation’s Ontic (Booth No. N3505) is growing. The company, which specializes in transitioning legacy parts manufacturing and distribution from OEMs to its own aftermarket production, has expanded both physically and through its range of products and services. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony September 25 it opened a new MRO facility in Singapore’s popular Seletar Aerospace Park, co-located with BBA Aviation’s Dallas Airmotive, which has established a Singapore Regional Turbine Center.

Ontic continues to expand its product line, which now includes the manufacture and MRO support of generation two and three electronics and avionics. A company spokesman told AIN it has traditionally provided fuel computers, fuel measurement systems, weather and terrain avoidance radar, wireless smoke detection systems and electronic engine controls.

L-3 Link Simulation and Training used a National Research Council of Canada Bell 412 as part of its research into improving fidelity-measuring standards for simulators.

Simulators could see a revolution in the quality of visuals as new ray-tracing technology comes to the fore and replaces rasterized images, and new multi-core chips make it possible to use multiple projectors simultaneously. That was one of the conclusions to emerge from a Royal Aeronautical Society conference in London on flight simulation research in late November. Whether the increased cost of greater “fidelity” is necessary to meet training goals was another matter for discussion.

Skyscapes, a new basecoat/clearcoat exterior paint developed by Sherwin-Williams Aerospace, now has two complete coatings, including pretreatment, corrosion protective primer, topcoat and clearcoat. Both are certified with SAE International’s Aerospace Material Specification 3095 (AMS 3095). One system includes Alodine, 483987 primer and Skyscapes basecoat/clearcoat. The second system is Alodine, 483787 chrome hazard-free primer and Skyscapes basecoat/clearcoat.

NASA Langley head-worn display

Lightweight, head-worn displays designed for military aircraft might eventually find a home in commercial cockpits as well. Researchers at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., have developed an eyewear clip-on display for use by pilots during airport surface operations, the subject of recent solicitation to industry for possible commercialization.
