In one of the biggest consolidations in the business aviation industry since Bombardier Aerospace combined Canadair, Learjet, de Havilland and Short Brothers in the late 1980s/early 1990s, Cessna Aircraft parent Textron announced on December 26 that it will acquire Beech Holdings LLC, the parent of Beechcraft Corp., for approximately $1.4 billion in cash. The deal is expected to close by the middle of this year.
Blackhawk (Stand 483) has closed a deal for another XP42 (PT6A-42) King Air aircraft upgrade here at EBACE 2012. The modification company is one of the largest non-OEM buyers of new Pratt & Whitney turboprop engines in the world. The lucky King Air scheduled for a facelift and performance boost is BB-748, operated by Halsted Aviation of Zimbabwe.
EADS’s board of directors has selected Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus, to succeed EADS CEO Louis Gallois when his five-year term expires at the end of May after the company’s annual meeting. At that time Arnaud Lagardère, managing partner of Lagardère SCA, will assume the role of chairman of the board, a position currently held by Bodo Uebber.
Manufacturers are offering stepped-up support for visitors traveling by business aircraft to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, Ind., February 5. Bombardier is positioning field service representatives at local Indianapolis FBOs to help Learjet, Challenger and Global operators with any last-minute problems. Bombardier’s North American customer services team will be standing by, including parts logistics representatives and mobile repair engineers.
Soaring sales of its business aircraft family have prompted Hawker Beechcraft to enlist ExecuJet Aviation to boost its product support network here in the Middle East, as well as in Africa and Australasia. In a recently agreed partnership, ExecuJet has been appointed to run service centers for the U.S. manufacturer here in Dubai, as well as in Lagos, Nigeria, Cape Town and Lanseria in South Africa, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia.

Hawker Beechcraft restructured its Hawker Beechcraft Services, Rapid and Hawker Beechcraft Customer Support into a single organization called Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support. Additionally, in an effort to define more clearly its role within the organization, the company’s parts and distribution division, formerly known as Rapid, is now Hawker Beechcraft Parts and Distribution.
Hawker Beechcraft King Air B200, Fort Myers, Fla. April 12, 2009–The Beech King Air B200, registered to White Equipment Leasing, was landed by a passenger who was not rated in the B200, after the pilot became ill shortly after takeoff from Marco Island Airport (Fla.).
Hawker Beechcraft is expanding its global service network by adding Arabian Aircraft Service (Arabasco) to support its Hawker 800 series and Aerodata of Germany to support its Beechcraft line.
Aviation Partners (API, Booth No. 2218) has selected Lanseria, South Africa-based National Airways Corp. (NAC) as the first authorized Blended Winglet installer outside North America.
API said it expects a “significant” increase in Blended Winglet sales due to NAC’s strong relationships throughout the region. To date there are three Hawker Beechcraft Hawker 800 series aircraft with Blended Winglets flying in Africa.
