Goodrich (Chalet CD-07) is celebrating 15 years since opening its Changi maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility here in Singapore. This began in 1995 as a 3,000-sq-ft repair shop with just 14 employees but is now an entire campus with 530,000 sq ft and 700 employees.

Safran and General Electric are stepping up activities at their newly formed nacelle joint venture with the appointment of Steve Walters as president. The Cincinnati-based alliance between Safran subsidiary Aircelle and GE’s Middle River Aircraft Systems business was launched in December 2008.

The Nordam Group announced that international subsidiary Nordam Europe Ltd. (NEL) has been designated an authorized service center for Embraer Aviation International. Selected structural airframe components, including flight control surfaces and engine nacelles are part of the authorization awarded in June.

Ground test runs started last month on the 4,900-pound-thrust TFE731-50, Honeywell’s newest business jet engine. The engine, featuring integrated nacelle and thrust-reverser systems, produced more than 5,000 pounds of thrust in a test cell on its first run, the company said. The engine is scheduled to begin flight testing on Honeywell’s Falcon 20 this summer.

The European Union’s research program on noise reduction, Silence(r), officially ended in June with promising results. It explored all noise sources, from engines to landing gear and flaps. However, although it achieved a reduction of five decibels in aircraft noise, several more leads need to be developed to reach the ambitious target of cutting a full 10 dB from average noise levels by 2020.

Russell Turner, a former top executive for Boeing’s United Space Alliance business in Houston, is the new president of Honeywell Aerospace’s $4.7 billion Engines, Systems and Services division. He assumed his duties at Honeywell on June 1, taking over from interim president Mike Redenbaugh, who returns to his previous job at the Phoenix company’s propulsion systems business.

Nordam is featuring the wing tip fences and landing light lenses it started manufacturing for the Airbus A380 in October, plus a Singapore-made  CFM56-3 thrust reverser to showcase its local capabilities.

Premier Aircraft of East Alton, Ill., said it passed the first engineering milestone for its program to upgrade the original Falcon 50 engine (the Honeywell TFE731-3) to a TFE731-4, to provide the “Falcon 50-4” with longer range, increased hot and high performance, better climb and higher cruise thrust than the basic aircraft, according to the company.
