I have to admit that my interest in drones–or unmanned aircraft systems, as the FAA prefers to call them–has been re-energized by my students at Vaughn College of Aeronautics. Sure, like most aviation enthusiasts, I’m interested in anything that flies and have been a model airplane fan from childhood.
New Airbus Helicopter CEO Guillaume Faury and the head of its U.S. arm, Marc Paganini, were visibly penitent when discussing the company’s traditionally problematic customer service yesterday at Heli-Expo. Faury left no doubt that he is committed to focusing more company resources and attention on product support. “It is time for new priorities,” he said. Paganini echoed that sentiment, admitting, “We need to do better.”

Constant Aviation completed its seventeenth 96-month inspection on the Legacy 600. The MRO has been a Legacy authorized service center since 2002. “The work is performed at our Cleveland facility and takes about 35 days,” CEO Steve Maiden told AIN. The company has performed more than fifty-five 48-month and more than twenty 72-month inspections. “We were the first authorized service center to complete a 48-month and 96-month inspection,” Maiden said.

Thermal/acoustic specialist 3M introduced a new acoustic demonstrator from its subsidiary E-A-R Thermal Acoustic Systems (Booth No. N5930) here at the NBAA convention. The demonstrator was created to simulate not only interior noise levels of a typical business aircraft, but also the range of noise signatures with varying frequency content.
InspecTech Aero Service has launched its iShade iQ electrically dimmable window, and the new technology includes a breakthrough in noise damping, according to the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company. “Cabin windows are a main path for noise transmission,” explained the company at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in April in Hamburg, Germany.
Lightspeed Aviation unveiled its next-generation Zulu headset last month at the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In. The new Zulu introduces several features, including “Microport Vent” technology that provides greater active-noise-canceling consistency, better fit and an improved microphone that adds more voice clarity and improved noise-canceling capability.
