Embraer has signed a contract for sale of a Phenom 300 to Amil Assistência Médica. It will be the first medevac version of the Phenom 300. Delivery is expected in the fourth quarter.

Action Aviation and SJ30 manufacturer Emivest Aerospace have announced that the SJ30 light jet is now available in an air-ambulance configuration. Better known for its executive/VIP role, the medevac version of the light twinjet will be a “quick fit” option provided by medical-interiors specialist Lifeport.

Hawker Beechcraft King Air B100, Rapid City, S.D., June 15, 2009–King Air N4490M, operated as a medical transport under Part 135 by Air Methods, encountered clear-air turbulence during a mission from Gordon Municipal Airport in Nebraska to Rapid City Regional Airport. The patient sustained severe injuries as a result of the turbulence; the four flight crewmembers received minor injuries. VMC prevailed during the flight.

Aviation Specialties Unlimited (Booth No. 3819) recently completed initial night- vision goggle (NVG) training for Irish Air Corps pilots and associated flight crews. The No. 3 Operations Wing of the Irish Air Corps is the first and only Irish operator using NVGs. It operates EC 135 and AW139 helicopters and performs a variety of missions including naval air support, reconnaissance, medevac, search-and-rescue and command-and-control.

Several long-simmering new helicopter development programs are likely to reach either first flights or certification this year and, despite an expected contraction in the medevac and offshore markets, orders and potential orders for these new models are likely to be strong.

Shortly after its entry into service in December with Mumbai, India-based Heligo Charters, an AgustaWestland AW139 performed a medical evacuation 217 nm off the coast. The destination was a seismic survey ship. Offshore operator Heligo Charters recently received CAR145 Maintenance Organization Approval, making it the first helicopter company in India to comply with these requirements.

Abu Dhabi-based Prestige Jet (Chalet No. 23) is expanding its air ambulance business to cater for a strong surge in demand for its medical evacuation and repatriation services. Yesterday, the company announced the formation of a new subsidiary, Prestige Flight Ambulance (PFA), which will make a dedicated Bombardier Challenger 604 and Learjet 55 available around the clock to carry patients to and from the United Arab Emirates.

Aerospatiale SA 365N-1 Dauphin, Camp Springs, Md. Sept. 28, 2008–The Maryland State Police EMS helicopter crashed three miles from Andrews AFB while on a medevac flight. Of the five people aboard, four were killed and one was severely injured. According to news sources, the aircraft had diverted to Andrews because of weather.
