AgustaWestland and Sino-US Intercontinental of China celebrated the grand opening of a joint regional business headquarters in Shanghai on April 9. In September, Sino-US Intercontinental was appointed an official non-exclusive distributor for AgustaWestland civil helicopters in China, but not including Hong Kong and Macau. Sino-US Intercontinental Helicopter Investment is part of Shanghai Zenisun Investment Group, a real estate and general aviation company that has been selling and operating helicopters in China since 2006.

The Gulfstream Beijing Service Center recently received authorization to service Gulfstream aircraft registered in Hong Kong and Macau. The approval was granted through a joint maintenance management (JMM) agreement among the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong and the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau SAR.

This week China’s Metrojet , a leading operator and maintenance provider in Asia, has announcedhas signed a partnership agreement with The Leather Institute of Red Bank, New Jersey. Under the agreement The Leather Institute will provide its aircraft interior care and leather component refinishing services at Metrojet’s facilities.

Nextant Aviation has started to enjoy success in Asia. The U.S.-based remanufacturer of Beechjet 400s brought a Nextant 400XT to Hongqiao and used ABACE to announce that it has appointed China Great Wall Industry (CGWIC) as its dealer for China, including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Later, Nextant announced that CGWIC made its first sale at the event–to someone who saw the aircraft on display in the static and quickly become CGWIC’s first sales success. With all the talk of how long business deals take to come to fruition in China, the deal was of particular note for showgoers.

Business aircraft manufacturers Gulfstream, Dassault, Hawker Beechcraft and Cessna will be exhibiting at the new Asian Business Aviation (ABA) show, to be held at the Macau Business Aviation Centre (MBAC) from June 9 to 11. The event at Macau International Airport will co-locate chalets and exhibit stands, as well as a static display of aircraft.

When large areas of the Asian economy tanked in the late 1990s, business aviation in the region suffered. In the Macau/Hong Kong vicinity alone, as many as 30 bizjets ceased operating and have yet to return.
