Honeywell Aerospace and China’s Avicopter signed a “strategic cooperation framework agreement” to consider equipping the latter company’s helicopters with Honeywell engines and avionics. Rishi Singh, Honeywell’s business and general aviation leader in the Asia-Pacific region, told AIN that his company is slated to provide avionics and engines for Avicopter’s proposed “next-generation single/twin,” which has yet to be given the green light to proceed.
China’s CAAC certified the Avicopter AC311 light-single helicopter last Thursday. In announcing the approval, the Chinese helicopter manufacturer also released more performance numbers, including a 131-knot max cruise speed, four-hour maximum endurance and 335-nm maximum range.
Soloy Aviation Solutions is offering an AS350B engine conversion kit that replaces the Turbomeca Arriel 1B with a Honeywell LTS101-600A-3A. The conversion reduces operating costs by approximately 20 percent, fuel flow by four to six gph, and may be maintained on an on-condition inspection cycle resulting in less down time and lower operating costs, according to Soloy. “The total kit, including factory rebuilt engine, is $440,000 and takes less than 10 days to install,” Nick Parkinson, helicopter sales director, told AIN.
The Avicopter AC311 light single-engine utility helicopter had its type certification “recommended” under China’s approval procedures last month. The Civil Aviation Administration of China’s (CAAC) type certification examination committee recommended issuance of the type certificate in a meeting held on May 4 in Beijing.
Honeywell is here at Heli-Expo Booth No. 3021 highlighting engine upgrades for the Eurocopter BK117 and the Bell 407. It has partnered with Airwork New Zealand (ANZ) to offer the LTS101-850B-2 engine to upgrade the BK117-B2 light twin to a BK117-850D2. ANZ received an STC from New Zealand’s civil aviation authorities last May. At last count, Honeywell had shipped 12 engines for six aircraft.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) awarded a supplemental type certificate (STC) to Soloy Aviation Solutions for conversion of Eurocopter AS350BA helicopters to a Honeywell LTS101-600A-3A powerplant. The upgrade is already approved for operators in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
